Vagifem dosage
« on: October 02, 2017, 11:02:56 AM »

I am taking Vagifem for urinary frequency. Has anyone else found that symptoms return once they stop taking this daily. My doctor seems relaxed about my doing this.

The idea is to use the product every night for 2 weeks.  Some ladies then find that they require it every night or with gaps between treatments.  It needs to be regularly inserted.

I have tried going back to 2/3 times weekly but symptoms return with a vengeance. Even on it all the time I have bad days and OK days. I cannot identify the triggers for the bad days. It seems to be none of the usual subjects although strong tea seems to be a no no. I also take Tolteradine ( Detrusitol) but I am not sure that this helps at all. There seems to be a definite link with anxiety though!

Jemp. I started in June and I did the two weeks load and now three times a week. Mon.Wed.Fri and it is keeping UTI's at bay. I have also stopped drinking caffeinated drinks as the consultant said that would help a lot and I really think it does. Do still have my one proper cup of black tea each morning though as didn't like the decaf ones on offer

It took me quite a while to get it sorted.  It is frustrating to have that happy place of things settling down looking like a reachable goal during the 2 week load, only for it to get lost again when you go to twice weekly.

I have seen guidelines from some care commissioning groups that say use it every day for two weeks then alternate days for two weeks.

I tried this, but could never get down to every third day.  It also gets messed up if you still have periods.  I use sequential hrt which has helped a little too, but you get the cyclical change in hormones still which messes things up, so I make sure I am well loaded before the bleeding.

My prescription said to use one or two twice weekly  :o So I use about the same as if you doubled up.

It does get better the longer you use it.  Having said that though, I seem to have messed it up again  ::)  If I think everything is going remarkably well and I am not using so much vagifem, it is the cue for it all to go wrong immediately.

For bladder, it really helps to have a day where you are at home for the day where you keep a glass of water by you and drink as much as you need, alongside your usual tea breaks etc.  With easy access to the loo, you can drink as much as you want and let your bladder stretch a bit.  It takes some of the irritability out of it and will help you go longer through the night too.  ;)

Forgot to say a little daily multigyn actigel helps at the beginning too.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know I am not alone with this none of my friends seem to have heard of it!
I have heard of the multi gyn - does this help with that feeling at the end of the urethra which drives me potty?!

I used to feel sore and swollen like I was about to get thrush and it helped with that.  Before that I went through a load of canesten until the cream burned and I had to jump in the shower to wash it off fast.

I used to use the tablet with multigyn flora active but the gel works out cheaper if you use a blob on your finger.

Years ago this product was delivered at I think, 25mg but was dropped to 10mg - so it stands to reason that if the higher dose was satisfactory, that for many women 10 won't be, hence the suggestion to use as required even every night.
