I had to stop taking my hrt about ten weeks ago and for the first six weeks after I felt ok.
Now my estrogen has plummeted I am experiencing a few hot flashes, alcohol intolerance, mood swings etc etc but the worst symptoms by far are the anxiety and insomnia. I initially thought I might be starting with restless legs syndrome but after finding a short article online about a condition called restless abdomen, I now feel that could be what I am experiencing.
I fall asleep ok but then wake with a start after an hour or two then a strange, uneasy, restless sensation in my abdomen and it builds until I can't stand the sensation anymore and I have to turn over in bed. This eases it awhile but then it starts to rebuild again. To say it's making me distressed is an understatement and I dread bedtimes now.
I found a bottle of kaolin and morphine in the cupboard and started having a teaspoon or two when I woke up ( a few times during the night) and this seems to temporarily calm my stomach down. The doctor has prescribed a sleeping pill for a fortnight but I don't feel this is going to do any good in the long term, it's not treating the problem, just masking it.
I'm certain this is caused by low estrogen levels and I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this and if so, how have you dealt with it? If i knew it would all settle in time I would cope better but I can't see how it can improve while my estrogen levels remain low.
It could also be low dopamine levels caused by low estrogen, which in turn can cause restless leg syndrome and restless abdomen.
I'm just so anxious right now and feel overwhelmed by the fact this might not go away. I have another doctors appointment on Tuesday, this time with my own doctor and I'll discuss things with her but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this awful situation?
