Restless abdomen?
« on: September 02, 2017, 05:56:00 PM »

I had to stop taking my hrt about ten weeks ago and for the first six weeks after I felt ok.
Now my estrogen has plummeted I am experiencing a few hot flashes, alcohol intolerance, mood swings etc etc but the worst symptoms by far are the anxiety and insomnia. I initially thought I might be starting with restless legs syndrome but after finding a short article online about a condition called restless abdomen, I now feel that could be what I am experiencing.
I fall asleep ok but then wake with a start after an hour or two then a strange, uneasy, restless sensation in my abdomen and it builds until I can't stand the sensation anymore and I have to turn over in bed. This eases it awhile but then it starts to rebuild again. To say it's making me distressed is an understatement and I dread bedtimes now.
I found a bottle  of kaolin and morphine in the cupboard and started having a teaspoon or two when I woke up ( a few times during the night) and this seems to temporarily calm my stomach down. The doctor has prescribed a sleeping pill for a fortnight but I don't feel this is going to do any good in the long term, it's not treating the problem, just masking it.
I'm certain this is caused by low estrogen levels and I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this and if so, how have you dealt with it? If i knew it would all settle in time I would cope better but I can't see how it can improve while my estrogen levels remain low.
It could also be low dopamine levels caused by low estrogen, which in turn can cause restless leg syndrome and restless abdomen.
I'm just so anxious right now and feel overwhelmed by the fact this might not go away. I have another doctors appointment on Tuesday, this time with my own doctor and I'll discuss things with her but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this awful situation?

WOW!  I had this years ago.  To the point that I had to turn over and lay face down to stop those sensations.  Don't know what the answer is!

Careful of the K&M - it isn't available these days  ::)

Did you ever find out what caused it and how long did it last? Did you take anything for it?
Years ago I occasionally had this feeling for a couple of days before a period started but once the bleed appeared the feeling went.
Maybe it's just a result of long term stress....

There is one chemist not far from here that still sells kaolin and morphine but I know most places don't anymore. Probably as well otherwise I'd be gulping the stuff down

It happened last night ......... don't know why. I'm not hormonal any more ........ not painful, quite a strange sensation .....

If I were you I would drop the K&M! and try something less addictive  ;)

How strange, I hope for your sake that it was a one off CLKD.
I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday but until then I shall try and make do with the maximum dose of Kalms. Better than nothing I hope🙄

As an aside - I also have strange sensations when I sit in the bath, as I lay down my belly starts to 'heave' - until I cover it with warm water  :-\ now explain that one  ;D - it has always happened and I've never dared wait to see if the sensation goes away ....... which it does when I lay down. I do think it's the warm water on my bottom that starts that off.

Try an ice cold bath instead!😁😁
I think we may be twins, I know exactly the sensation you mean, my stomach heaves then the sensation travels up my oesophagus!
What a complicated lot us women are.....

I've never told anyone about the bathing experiences as I never expected anyone else to understand  :D

Tummy feels strange today but probably 'cos I've been busy and not eating properly  :-\

For the past few years, I tend to get uncomfortable sensations, fluttering, even fleeting pain in late evening, which does seem to settle once I get to sleep. I just assumed it was related to IBS. I take the attitude that my digestive system is doing its best to sort itself out! If it does wake me up I go and make some cocoa with coconut milk and no sweeteners. Not sure if it helps my tummy, but it soothes me! Tastes nice too.

Ooh it does! I might try some even when my stomach is not jittery😃

My stomach problem is connected to my restless legs, once the jitters start, the urge to move my legs kicks in ( no pun intended haha)

You pun away - bananas cured my restless legs, eating 3/4 small ones daily for 5 years and I had no symptoms.  Then I got fed up with bananas  ::)

Stomach easier now .......... no fluttery feelings.
