After Prempac C what's next for me?
« on: August 23, 2017, 11:12:45 AM »

Hi everyone

I'm a newbie looking for some advice!! I was using PPC until a few months ago when it was discontinued - it seemed to work ok, still bleeding at 53 but manageable night sweats, no flushing but perhaps some mood swings (although it's been a brutal year emotionally with my Mum's death and a toxic teen... .)  So  I thought I'd try and come off HRT for good in May.... what a mistake that was!  Since stopping  I'm flashing  almost every 15 minutes,  have rashes, horrendous night sweats, terrible mood swings, insomnia and zero libido/sex drive,  absolute exhaustion and total ennui... I just cannot be bothered doing anything... feels like my ambition, drive, and get up and go have got up and left....  ;D So  my GP directed me to the site -which is wonderful btw like finding hidden treasure - but I think he expects me to identify and tell him which preparation I'd like to try but I haven't a clue as there appears to be so many options??

I'm reasonably healthy but emotionally drained and exhausted and can't believe I've not got a little more to give before going out to pasture. :D Can anyone recommend anything they've tried, and is there any preferences for gels, coils, tablets etc? Love to hear your experiences and any advice you might have...

Thanks!

Why don't you have a look at the treatment tab above, as prempac agreed with you, you could see which ones have the same ingredients.
I have tried many different types of HRT, at the moment I'm only using vagifem for VA but I preferred the patches but everyone is different , you need to have a look and see what works for you.

Hi Robot

I was also on Prempac C (1.25mg) until it was discontinued, so will offer my experience from what I have tried and currently on.

I started on Indivina 2mg/5mg, I have just given up on those after 3/4 months on them, they didn't really help at all but thought I would give it a healthy try.

Went back to the doctors and because I haven't had a period in over 15months now, I was given (by a locum)  Fem 7 conti patches 50mcg, however after stopping the pills and starting the patches, I could feel myself going on an even slippier slope, so went back again yesterday, to my normal doctor and was given Fem 7 Conti patches 100mcg and Provera 2.5mg.

The does of Prempac I was on was a higher dose and so the dosage of the patches and provera I have now been given are the correct dosage.  I have only got them today, so can't tell you yet, but can update you next week.

Hi mamaka

I'm so sorry you've had a difficult time with the loss of your mum and I too have a toxic teen so feeling it for you! You were brave  to drop the HRT in the face of all of this. Agree there's no need to put yourself through added trauma with the horrid symptoms you are experiencing.

I think it's good advice from your GP as I've found loads of valuable info on here- hidden treasure indeed!

Well, Premarin is a conjugated estrogen as you were on with Prempak C and this is still available. Many on here prefer the estradiol which is bioidentical, but if the conjugated suited you in the Prempak it might be worth trialling this first?

As far as I know you can only get two separate progesterones in the UK: Provera ( technical abbreviation MPA) a synthetic progesterone or Utrogestan which is a micronised progesterone and is bioidetical to what we produce in our bodies. Many on here are having great success with this. You were on the levongestral (bad spelling?) in the Prempak but it's not available singularly.

You can add in the Provera progesterone as continual so no bleed or to give a bleed where you only take the prog part for half the cycle e.g. 14 days. Some take the Utrogestan with only a 3 day break to give a brief withdrawal bleed and some do 12 to 14 days. Some do much less but this would be 'off plan' and not recommended by most doctors I believe as there is a danger womb lining will build up. I only say this as I read many posts which confused me initially where some were doing only a few days each month, or every three months! I think this has to be done under supervision by a gynaecologist with regular womb scans. I guess if you are progesterone intolerant, you have to find a way around this with expert supervision.

You have been well on progesterone so this shouldn't be an issue.

To get the same progesterone as in Prempak, you can look at the preparation menu as previously suggested which will list which tablets/ patches include this type of progesterone,  but they will be with estradiol estrogens. I went from a discontinued conjugated estrogen Premique and am still struggling with estradiol but am trying to persevere. If not, I'll trial Premarin again as it was amazing in helping me sleep, no flushing, felt super calm etc. My only issue was dizziness but it might be due to other stress I had going on at time so may go back again if I can't settle on current preparation.

I'm sure other more experienced posters will be along to help! Welcome to the forum🤗
