Hello I'm new
« on: August 17, 2017, 07:24:42 PM »

hi I'm 43 year old. had lining of my womb removed at 39. have had menopause symtoms for couple of years now but tried to ignore most of them.  3 months ago everything came to head due to personal circumstances  (terminally ill mum) thought I was having a breakdown along with heart attack as palpitations were so bad.  After ecg and various tests dr thought I was having clash of anxiety and menopause symtoms. been on hrt for 2 1/2 months now and feel human again and most symtoms subsided.   my main problem now is after 3 weeks of take hrt I started to have extremely prickly stingy skin mostly in my legs but do have feeling all over.  taking antihistamines which help slightly. Dr wants me to change hrt but I'm frightened in case I get palpitations back. has anyone experienced this and have any suggestions. any advice is gratefully received as this is really getting mr down

Hi and welcome
HRT can be great and, as you are young, it will be beneficial for your heart and bones.
It is about finding the right HRT for you so sometimes one needs to kiss a few frogs before finding the prince.
You don't say which HRT you are on? I'm afraid some progesterones do increase itching if the skin and other strange sensations.  Many side effects do settle over time.
You might do better with a Mirena coil fitted and used oestrogen as gel or patch - this often brings fewer side effects.
Palpitations are a very common meno symptom and usually go away with any HRT.

I've not experienced your skin symptoms but I do get palpitations (sinus tachycardia) if my oestrogen is too low- probably one of my least favourite symptoms!

It might be worth trying a different HRT as Dancing girl mentions - you can always go back if it's no better.

Thanks guys I'm currently on elleste duet but have been prescribed femoston which I have to swop to after I've finished this month's supply. I'm going to bite the bullet and swop over to see of it makes difference.  I had marina coil fitted a few years prior to my surgery but they removed because I bled everyday for 9 month. I have a review with my gp at end of month so will discuss option of coil etc.

Hi clouston22

 :welcomemm: from me too.

I presume it was an ablation you had? Does this mean you have been given Elleste Duet conti or the cyclical one that gives a withdrawal bleed in those who still have womb/lining but may not in your case due to the lining removal?

If you have been given the conti one, then it may be better to have the sequi one (ie Femoston 1/10 or 2/10 depending on the dose of Elleste you were on?) - because as Dancinggirl says some of the (synthetic) progestogens do cause side effects and especially if you are taking them all the time. Femoston is one of the better tolerated tablet HRT types.

As she suggested a Mirena and you've already had one happily - you would not bleed if you've had your lining removed so sounds like the  best option and as she says you could have patch or gel oestrogen.

Good luck at your review and let us know how you get on :)
