I can't tell you how relieved I am to find this thread!! I am 57 and am currently sitting here with a hot water due to a period and cramping.

I have spotted for the last six months and then nothing until now. I'm on patches but due to my age have been put into the post menopausal group too by my GP. My boobs hurt yesterday and I honestly feel like I did in my 20's with periods!

Your GP is wrong.  One isn't in menopause until after the last monthly period!  Peri can throw up some awful symptoms which HRT should ease though it may be Trial and Error initially.  On using HRT 1 cannot know as extra hormones may trigger the ovaries.

Once periods wax and wane we are advised to count for 12 months free of a bleed to consider that we are into menopause, that that is it!   However, Nature may throw a spanner in the works so we need to begin from 1.

Yes, I haven't had a 12 month free of periods yet. I am struggling to find support here on the NHS. If I mention anything, I am put on the scan list as my GP thinks I'm too old for bleeding!  :-\

I am currently on Estradot 100mg and Ustrogen. I had my Estrogen levels checked with a blood test recently due to pains in my legs and it was apparently fine. I don't see that HRT has eased anything. Should it?

Thank you for your suggestion of Feminex pain relief! I'm in so much pain (Endometriosis)

Ring your local Pharmacist for advice about pain relief. Which symptom did U want to ease with HRT?

I had excruciating pain during every period for many years  :'(

The pain has been unreal!!

Is this what happens when you think you’ve escaped most menopausal symptoms and then bam?!

So sorry you are in so much pain. Endometriosis needs careful management as oestrogen can make it worse. Who is overseeing your hrt dosage? Is there any help to be had here https://www.endometriosis-uk.org/hormone-treatments-endometriosis. My daughter in law has severe endo so I know how debilitating it is.

I’m 56 and feel like I’ve had peri symptoms since early 40’s.  Last 3 periods have been 2 weeks apart.  I’ve had a headache for 2 weeks to varying degrees.  Would this be peri? I take everol 75 patches. X

Banana11 - this may well be the start of peri-menopause.  Headaches can be caused by dehydration.  Have U always had them during your monthly cycle?

A week of spotting, bleeding and then back to spotting. I still have continuous pelvic pain (cramping) which I can feel in one side of my back. I thought it was IBS but I think it’s more gynae problem.

I did switch between Gel and patches and back again and also went on a higher dose (4 pumps instead of 3, 200mg instead of 175mg about a month ago. Could there be any relation between the two?

Yes, any change in dose can cause spotting / bleeding .

2nd day in lower middle pain which is radiating round to my back, I've had a week of spotting, heavy period, dark brown discharge and today nothing (Hopefully!) but the lower abdominal middle pain is so bad and I'm in bed with a hot water bottle. I'm really worried about this especially as it's the weekend. Can anyone relate? (I'm 57)

I had spotting/dark discharge from May '23 to September 23' and then nothing until November 24' which was lower abdominal middle pain with no spotting and now the above! I'm so worried it's sinister.  :'(

Ibuprofen but two don’t make any difference at all. It’s Sunday tomorrow and our pharmacy will be closed. I’ve got a GP appointment on Monday but I’m terrified to be honest.

Did you have your lower abdominal pain after you’d stopped spotting at the end of your period?
