Hi everyone
I'm 52 in October and still getting periods. I actually have my period at the moment. Over the last two years, I have had gaps of 4-5 months between periods and then a couple of months where they come at the right time. I have had one period that produced some clots, but nothing alarming. I have read all the literature on what is considered “normal” for periods during perimenopause and I guess my only concern was some spotting I had 10 days ago before this period set in. This period is probably more painful than usual but not terrible. I am using maybe 5 pads per day. Does this all sound pretty usual for peri bleeding? I am taking iron tablets during my periods because although my periods are still within the normal range of blood loss, they are slightly heavier for me.  What has been the age of last period for most ladies here?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum daisysareyellow, good to have you join us.

I'm 58 and still hanging on in to peri, skin of the teeth now though. All you've mentioned sounds really normal for peri daisy. This is the link to the thread that Sparkle mentioned, have a read.

Yes join us you are very welcome! My periods were like that when I was 52 except I hadn't missed any by that stage. You might be on the home straight.

I seem to be at that same stage daisysareyellow - spotting before, after and maybe instead of periods at the moment. First long gap about 18 months ago. I think anything and everything is 'normal' at this stage :) You should join us over on that thread if you can.

Sounds 'within normal limits' from where I'm sitting  ;) - browse round, make notes!

I have a follow-up question. How long would a period be considered normal during peri? I have been going 5 days, but my previous one was 7 days. I used to get a 2-3 day period in the past.

Again, any time I think. Mine last 10 days now if you include 5 days of spotting. I've had ones lasting over 20 days a few times too

OK, so my period ended up being 7 days. Five of those days were heavy and on three of the days I would get a slight whoosh feeling when I stood up. I did get clots, but only three and not very big. It will be very interesting to see what follows. I took an iron/vitamin c supplement for the week and a couple of days following the end of my period as I just didn't feel right. It made my stools  go completely black, but the pharmacist had warned me about that! I have been in peri for about 2 years I think with no sweats and no flushing. I did notice a drop in my usual cheerful mood this time and thankfully I feel back to my normal self now.  :)
