I just wondered if anyone has any experience of Amitryptyline helping with VA pain/discomfort and if so how long it took to work and at what doseage?

Amitriptyline is being given for nerve pain I assume ?

Is there a reason you have been offered this instead of local oestrogen/ HRT ? as the problem with amitriptyline is it's drying , side effects very often dry mouth what dries our mouth dries our vaginas , all mucosal membranes.

However if you are on local oestrogen/ HRT etc then yes some do use it .

Thanks Maryjane. And just to say on a related matter how I agree with you that VA is just not talked about as being a part of menopause. None of my friends ever mention it and looke surprised when I say I have bladder problems due to menopause!

Yes I have amitryptyline for burning,itching, bladder pressure etc. I have been using Vagifem since September 2016 but still in some discomfort so asked for Amitryptyline a couple of weeks ago. I have been using it for 18 days.

My question was has it worked for anyone and if so how quickly and what dose etc. I just wondered if it will work for VA pain?

can take upto three months to work , some prefer noratriptyline.

Have you thought about the estring ?

Thanks, I haven't thought about the Estring. I am using 5 Vagifem a week at the moment. VA seems erratic, some good days and some bad. Would like to stabilise it.

5  Vagifem is probably not enough?  The dose was lowered a few years ago from I think 25mg!  So perhaps use it every night and maybe double up every 3rd?

The Estring is good - no fillers, pop it in and forget it for a couple of months. I often find it goes off the boil a bit earlier than the 3 month time but other than that it is marvellous. I have now educated three GPs and a practice nurse about it

One a day is still nothing like the 2x25mg a week but is 95% i get blips but they do go x

Do you use anything other than Vagifem? How long did it take you to stabilise the VA?
