I don't really get bloating, although perhaps a little with the progesterone. If the oestrogen is causing this then it should settle hopefully, although any breast changes may well remain (they have with me). I have no experience of oestrogen being too high - not that I would have notice(d) anyway.

Sorry Anjia - I can't help with this one - hopefully someone else will be along - maybe post in future on the all things menopause board as more members look at that one I think, when busy.

Hi Anjia I suffer with bloating too.  I first noticed it when I switched from tablets to patches.  I raised the issue at the menopause clinic and was informed it is because oestrogen attracts water.  I was also told it doesn't matter whether you use patches or gel both have the same down side unfortunately.

I've never managed to solve it completely but I do try to minimize it with good diet and exercise. I would be interested if anyone has any solutions x

This is really interesting to learn this, I have been on the Estradot patches & Utrogestan x 10 days regime for about 16 months now & have noticed over the last 6 months or so how bloated I have become, at the end of every day my calf's appear full of water & my tummy is so bloated it's unreal, it doesn't seem to go away at the end of the Utrogestan course either. We're going on holiday next week and I've been trying on all my holiday clothes and I could honestly cry, everything from last summer is so tight as I have gained weight aswell & even though I've been cutting down for the last few weeks I haven't lost any weight and I feel ready to pop. I just feel a right mess at the moment & I am dreading going away and having to wear shorts.  Anyone have any advice??

Yeah- I'm experiencing similar problems on utrogestan and oestrogel- never noticed it before on the tablets. Some round tummy but ankles and fingers too- can't get my rings off. Don't know what's causing it. I think bloating is quoted as a side effect for both O & P.

Goosieloosie- if you're off somewhere warm , the boating might get worse so all I can recommend is loose tops/ kaftans and  light trousers/ shorts.  Maxi dresses are a godsend too. Depends on the type of holiday you're going on. I'm not a sunbather so my warm weather go to clothes are always maxi dresses or cropped chinos with a loose top. Or wide leg linen trousers.Maybe you can treat yourself to some new clothes that aren't expensive rather than go on holiday and feel miserable because you're uncomfortable x

Hi all, i still don't have any solutions to this I'm afraid. Except to say that I have been really strict with my diet recently as we go on holiday next week, I have lost a little bit of weight but it is hard going.  I do feel if I came off hrt it would resolve itself as I was previously naturally slim, but I wouldn't feel as good so it's a balancing act and the downside to talking hrt if you're prone to bloating. Sorry I couldn't be more help, still open to solutions anyone has found x

Peri- couple of years back before a trip to Burma, I tried a probiotic called Symprove. It's a live culture and has got to be kept in the fridge. You drink it on an empty stomach in the morning. I took it for my IBS and it really worked as I was the only one in our group that didn't have tummy trouble.
It is quite expensive though- you take it for a few months and then you're supposed to re-boot periodically. Not sure if you can buy in shops. I bought it from their website after reading an article about it and how successful it's been in hospital trials.

I think the problem with the drinks is that they don't contain enough bacteria and with the tablets, the acid in the stomach kills a lot off before they reach the gut. You should have a look at their website.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look.  Bloating/swelling is the only problem I've been unable to solve since I had my mirena fitted - but I'm working on it!x

http://www.symprove-store-locator.com/

Symprove is sold in quite a few places now. I was going to try it but found the Holland &B one I use worked well enough. Have a friend who swears by it but it is very expensive indeed

I am experiencing the same bloating and weight gain due to it. It started 3 days after starting the utrogestan / oestrogel.  I'm so uncomfotable with it.  I've eaten hardly anything today because of it.  My ankles and fingers are swollen.  I don't know if it's the progesterone or the estrogen causing it.

Michelemabelle, do you think it's the estrogen then that causes the bloating and not the utrogestan?  I have the same and was thinking of doing a couple of days without utro to see.  Maybe I'll lower my gel instead.  You mentioned that you didn't get it with the tablets.  which tablets?  Do you think that may be becasue less estrogen is absorbed with the tablets?
