Sorry Katia- I don't know what was causing it. I couldn't work it out but I suspect it was the oestrogen.
I was on Elleste Duet tablets- you might have a point about the absorption of the gel though. I have stopped HRT and have noticed that the bloating isn't as bad and my ankles have gone back to normal size- getting terrible joint and muscle pains though!  >:(

Anjia, when I initially started HRT, I used a 0.075 patch and it was too much estradiol for me.  I bloated and had other issues which did not resolve until I dropped to 0.050.  It's trial and error mostly.  Hope you find the right level/balance!

Ive dropped the gel down to two pumps and stopped the Utrogestan for a few days. The boating is still there. I do think it's related to the gel.  I'll see how the Utrogestan is when I add it back. How long did it take for your ankles to go back to normal?  How long did you have the bloating?  I'm wondering if it will settle?

Michelemabelle, I did read somewhere about less bloating with tablets.  Funnily, I never had it with the pill which is synthetic estrogen. I think there is an HRT with the synthetic estrogen. It may be worth a try if you need to go back to the HRT. The reply I got from the consultant was to carry on as the studies don't show bloating or weight gain for HRT!  the bloating is so uncomfortable. If it doesn't subside I'll be joining you in coming off HRT.

I've also noticed that while my body has bloated, my face seems to have gone thinner.  I also seem to have developed puffy bags under my eyes.

hi katia- my face is a bit drawn but I think it's to do with feeling unwell and tired for so long.
ankle fluid retention disappeared after 3-4 days.
hard I know but I just think we start to change shape regardless of what we do.
I don't often weigh myself but I do feel a tad slimmer since I've come  off x

MIchelemabelle, my face has gone a bit drawn too. Not sure if it's the HRT or the dieting to stop the weight gain. I have bags under my eyes, which I'm not sure if they come from my face looking more drawn or the bloating. Cutting the gel down and  having the 3 day break from the Utrogestan has helped the bloating.  It's gone down considerably, but not gone. I also took a water tablet, which is not something I want to have to do.  :-\I'll see how it goes when I add back the Utrogestan and will add the gel back at a quarter of a pump. It seems such a waste discarding three quarters of it, but I read increasing gradually helps with bloating. The other thing is to try tablets.
