Utter exhaustion
« on: April 12, 2017, 11:35:31 AM »

How do others cope with feeling permanently exhausted? I have slept till nearly 11 this morning, that's more than 12 hours and still could sleep more.
I often could put my head down at work , no matter what time of day. Also I'm finding my home life increasingly difficult to cope with for personal reasons. There just seems to be endless heartache and upset  I just have no energy to give to it all.
My diet is reasonable, I don't drink or smoke.
Any advice to help me cope with the extra stuff please? I'm on Citalopram and HRT already.

Totally empathise with you jedigirl.

I'm thankful that the episodes of overwhelming fatigue I have experienced over the last 4 years did resolve as it stopped me doing anything.
The first time was crashing fatigue at 3pm where I literally had to sleep, the second was similar to you the sleeping for hours, waking and still too tired to move. Both times seem to be linked to low Oestrogen levels. The first was not absorbing my Oestrogel correctly so I was changed to patches, the second was overcome by changing to another patch.

I have heard from two people recently, one started taking Vitamin D, the other Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 and they noted an increase in energy but I'm not sure if it's safe to just start taking those vitamins.

Keep eating well and maybe get out in the sunnier weather for a walk - it might help you feel a bit better and you can escape your worries for a while.

I'm sorry you're feeling so whacked jedigirl. My daughter always feels like this in the winter months and uses a number of 'tools' to stay on top  of it.

She sets the alarm to an early hour, plays loud dance music in the shower and boogies whilst she's showering, gets outside to exercise be it yoga, Pilates, fast walking or just a stretching and jogging on the spot exercise. She prepares a large breakfast every day, again accompanied by the loud upbeat music.

She's also noticed that when low she is less resistant to upset. She has a really demanding, challenging job which would send anyone round the bend, so she has to stay proactive to mentally stay on top of it!

Hope you find a way to beat it! x

I have found I am less tired since adding a magnesium supplement but I can also remember sleeping for England.  I would sleep 14 hours, wake up and be tired again 3 hours later.  It does pass, eventually, but that is little comfort to others who are going through it  :(

Hello jedigirl,

I have the same problem, but I'm not on any HRT now.

I take vit D3 5000 IU daily, vit B12 1000 µg weekly, I don't drink or smoke and I am a vegetarian. Thyroid, iron and ferritin tests are normal. I live in a very sunny country, so no winter blues. I walk daily, don't drive.

No upbeat music can make me wake me up in the morning, ER! And I almost killed my iPhone trying to disable the alarm  ::)

Do you have the hot flushes? I blame them for my disrupted sleep, I'm having 10-15 day and night.

If your HRT has a decent oestrogen dose I guess we both may have problems with adrenal hormones. That's what I am investigating currently but it's a complex subject.

Meanwhile, the crushing fatigue is even preventing me to post in this forum  :(

Hope we work it out somehow!

 :foryou:

P.S. I will try the magnesium, thanks babyjane!

When was your thyroid function last tested?  Also VitD levels?

Crashing fatigue doesn't last for ever but can be debilitating!  Keep well hydrated but not over the top or the body needs to work harder.

I feel hung over often due to the various medications that I take to keep me going  ::)

Hi Menomale, haven't seen you for a while. I'm sorry you're still feeling awful, that pesky flu certainly wiped you out!

I hope you find a solution and feel better soon. Even if you haven't the energy to post, keep on reading and know that we all wish you well x

Thank you, ER! I'm reading as much as I can, but feeling really tired and the computer screen doesn't help. A new symptom is clenching/grinding teeth day and night  >:( oh the joys...

Thank you all. I will look again at my vitamin intake. I often get out walking, in fact just returned.
Think my thyroid etc was tested two years ago when all my meno problems were at their worst.
Am currently using two scant pumps oestrogel. Maybe Ill try two and a bit, see if it helps.
Thank you Sparkle. Things are pretty desperate right now. It's very difficult to see a positive end to it all Hope you are keeping well xxx

Definitely up your gel  :D

- maybe three as that's easier to measure and will give you a consistent dose.

:foryou: Menomale, i was wondering where you were.  Do you think the flu has added to your exhaustion?

Hey sparkle, thanks! Definetely, I'm still coughing at night after 3 months! Asthma, hot flushes and hot weather (31 C here) don't help...

In the 1990s several of us had the same type of cold virus which left us with hacking coughs for 3-4 months.  We all took high dose Magnesium which stopped the cough reflex.  We all got better quite quickly after beginning the Magnesium.

Menomale,
Hope you're feeling well soon, coughing at night really takes it out of you. I don't have hot flushes now I'm on HRT and sleep well usually tho often wake clenching my teeth and fists.
Sparkle,
I might go back to GPs after the holidays. DD has support coming out of her ears, crisis teams, hospitals, therapists, consultants , you name it. Support for us is more difficult although my gp is very sympathetic and makes me cry every time I visit being so nice! I have been offered counselling through the GP but to be honest we have enough appointments going on with DD. We both work so its a juggling game already as I have had to have lots of time off when DD is too ill to go out. We keep plodding! xx

CLKD, thanks for the magnesium tip, have you ever checked your levels?  I was wondering if there are orthomolecular doctors in the UK? They were everywhere here some time ago but now they seemed to have vanished... they used to perform a mineralogram test before prescribing any supplement, I can't say I trusted them but the test was something I would like to try.

Jedigirl, if you don't have hot flushes, then I'm afraid my fatigue won't go away with HRT?

Sparkle, could you recommend some of these apps?
