I've been given hope!
« on: March 15, 2017, 11:51:21 AM »

Just when I thought I was going to have to ride this out without any hope of improvement from my HRT my amazing GP has given me a glimmer of hope.
When I told him about my visit to the consultant and how I felt it had been a waste of time - you are on a stable dose of hrt (75mg estradot +utro) your estradiol level is ok at 280pmol, things should be supressed, it's not your hormones, take ADs and beta blockers, you don't fit the normal pattern, I will do whatever you want!!!!! -
My lovely GP asked if there was anyone else I could see/speak to. I live in the North East of England so we don't have many options. The nearest is Dr Currie in Dumfries. He promptly said he would refer me to her and will ask her to see me as soon as possible. I was so happy as I know I will get the very best of her knowledge and advice. There has to be something that can help me as I am at rock bottom and facing the prospect of loosing my job.
Just wanted to share so that others in the same situation can benefit from a really understanding GP. He also gave me something to help with sleep and was also prepared to help with the nausea but I declined this as the hideous nausea recently has now disappeared.
Best wishes to you all xx

Hello EllaM.

Good news indeed! Is it our own Dr Currie that you will be seeing? Your GP sounds great and you will be getting excellent treatment. Do let us know how you get on.

Take care.

K.

Thank you  Annie, he certainly is! He could see how poorly I was and how desperate for help. He also was keen to offer whatever help he could.
When i mentioned that I was considering ADs as I felt so anxious and low he even said that we should wait to see what Dr Currie said which goes against what other GPs seem to do.
Am in bed early as have had terrible palpitations and feel really rough so the appointment can't come quick enough xx

...... and breath.  Try tensing your toes, hold, then relax.  Work your way up each muscle group as it can re-focus the mind as well as act as therapy.

Hi Ella

I am a fellow low mood/anxiety sufferer thanks to hormones. Your reading of 280 pmol of oestrogen really isn't very high at all. I see Prof Studd and my first bloods showed 320 pmol which he wasn't very pleased with. He said he likes his ladies to be above 600 pmol at least, and he has ladies who are on over 1000 pmol. He explained that some women need far higher levels of oestrogen to feel good, compared to others.

'Average' levels of oestrogen are just that, AVERAGE. Some women need much less, some need much more.

Lovely to hear from you GRL and so pleased that you are feeling better.
I really am at rock bottom but feel that my key issue is the hormonal fluctuations which are going crazy at the moment.
I'm hoping my appointment with Dr Currie will come through soon as I just don't know what to do with my HRT i.e. stop or try to get to 100 as the higher dose makes me feel anxious and jittery. I guess I haven't given it long enough at that dose to see if it settles.
I have never suffered with anxiety or pms in my life but it's off the Richter scale at the moment. I have had an unscheduled bleed 5 weeks from the start of my last planned bleed and i am sure this is my own hormones breaking through. I am trying to ride it out without SSRIs but am seriously considering them as things are so bad at the moment.
I hope you stay well xx

Some ADs can ease anxiety too, as can an emergency anti-anxiety tablet 'as necessary'.  Even though you know this is hormonal easing symptoms is important.  Could you ring the Clinic to see how long Dr Currie's waiting list might be or could you offer yourself 4 a cancellation appt. at short notice?
