Hi

As someone who generally hates cleaning I am always looking for shortcuts. Here is one I used yesterday and have been using for years.

Oven cleaning This is one for those with a dishwasher.  Put all the shelving and shelf supports, plus the grill pan, in the dishwasher, and wash on the hottest programme.  When done any remaining dirt will just wipe off with little effort. 

I have other tips, which I will post later.

Good idea but the shelving won't fit into the dishwasher

I have a lovely copper pan I use as a fruit bowl, to clean it I cover it in a thin layer of tomato ketchup, leave it for about 10 minutes then I rinse and wipe it off to reveal a lovely shiny finish, easy

I stick the racks in the dishwasher but I get a man in to clean the actual oven!

What a great thread, we all need a bit of help to cut the hard graft out of cleaning.  Perhaps also a cooking short cut tips too?  I got in such a bother this morning trying to make too many things at once 

I have a professional wok without non stick coating.  I clean it and season it as instructed but it still gets rust residue if not used frequently.  Any suggestions?

I also put the powder/conditioner dispenser tray from the washing maching in the DW to get all the black gunge off it

BJ - wash it in soapy water, greasing a wok will work if it's used daily

Lemons are also great to clean copper and stainless steel.

Here is another one.

Use the clear daily shower spray to clean mirrors and windows.
Not only does it clean really well but it stops glass steaming up.

I use a squeegee on the shower walls - cleans and dries at once.

My best cleaning short cut only applies to those with short sight.  Take your glasses off.  See!  The place looks much cleaner straight away.

I live in a hard water area and our shower cubicle gets cleaned quite successfully - I use various products from the Supermarket and a hard window-cleaning squeegee thingy ........ after stopping the water I wrap a towel round me and use the squeegee thingy immediately ......... no smears!  Then I use it on myself ;-)

Living in a hard water area, its virtually impossible to keep our shower cubicle looking good. It has to be my number one hated chore. Given a choice I'd get rid of it in a shot and just use the bath.  Fortunately I don't go in there in my specs, so can kid myself it looks ok!

I always used the bath and husband and sons used the shower. A few years ago I refused to clean the shower as I never used it and had got really fed up with them never wiping it down with the squeegee thing after use. I had to steel myself not to give in as they never really got into cleaning it properly! A small victory!

I also think the only way is to wipe it down straight away.  I use a microfiber cloth, then polish it with the window version when it is nearly dry.  I give it a squirt with a peroxide based bathroom cleaner which is supposed to turn to oxygen and water after 10 minutes, to make sure black mould does not take hold, about once a month.

My husband is no board because he does not like having to reseal everything when it has gone black.

The main bathroom, I leave to the no-longer-teenagers.  They are supposed to do it themselves and have all lived away (in student accommodation  ) so should know what they are doing    But I WILL NOT clean it for them, even if the boyfriend is about to visit.  I do put some bleach down things when I can't cope anymore though.
