Your GP is sadly, sadly completely out of date and no, she does NOT know what she is talking about. All the advice on this thread is very sound; my favourite being Hurdity's advice of consulting Dr Currie by  email and taking it in to your GP and saving yourself the bother of looking for a specialist. On the other hand, if this is the GP you will have to deal with for your meno needs, then maybe you should have someone else as backup. Local meno clinic ?
Good luck
I spoke to 2 pharmacists earlier today in different branches of Boots. I said I had got info from MM. I was advised to disregard it and listen to the doctor  ;D
This isn't my allocated GP whom I never see because she never has appointments at times suitable for me. I was once told that the practice was generally not supportive of HRT. If I move to another one, I may find that they are the same. A personal recommendation from someone local would be good but I don't have one.

No need to take the AB unless it's been SENT TO A LAB!!! XGPs are using far too many ABs!

I would write to Dr Currie for a letter consult for I think £25/.50.00 .

If they don't listen to one of the top adviser/ specialists then they shouldn't be doing the job.

Sadly though, they are out there, in Practice.  I wish that GPs would remember why they are GPs and not Consultants!

I have just  lpooked back at the hospital doctor's letter which was based on lab tests. She wants me to have a broader spectrum  AB rather than a UTI one to ensure that the infection is completely cleared. There were a lot of white cells present. I have thus decided to go ahead and take it this time.  My appt  with her went very well as she was willing to listen and explained things in a lot of detail/ didn't  talk down to me. I have 1 more appt with her which is optional but i intend to go. Have a chance to ask more questions if I have more probs  with GP.

I will however also make an appointment  with another GP and try to speak to one of the nurses too. I will take the printout with me.

I can't see which one you have bumped. Is it under a different title?  Hopefully this cold won't be too bad. It just started with sneezing/bunged up (no sore throat/bad headache)

OK thanks! Have now found it and think I have read it before. I don't really have the burning. I just get symptoms which possibly mimic UTI. Usually slight discomfort/irritation  inside and something similar to an old period pain. When i used Estriol, i got some relief quite quickly.
No probs at the moment.

Kate, my GP prescribed Vagifem and told me categorically I could stay on it as long as I needed/wanted.  She said a year of twice weekly Vagifem was equivalent to one HRT tablet !

Its very worrying and concerning that different GP's are giving out very different advice regarding its usage and duration.   I would definitely print out the NICE guidelines and take them along when you next go.  My vagifem is on repeat and I can order it up as and when I need it.  I saw another GP in my practice recently about recurrent UTI's and the first thing he recommended was .................Vagifem, which of course I am already on, he said it was the Gold Standard for urogenital atrophy. He prescribed low dose Trimitoprim but I haven't needed it so far.
