Anyone else having more trouble than normal from common colds and viruses? One has been making rounds here and I'm not having a terrible time with the normal mucus and congestion symptoms, but low grade fever and body aches are killing me. It seems each time this year I've had a cold it drags me down like this. I haven't been taking anything for it because like I said the usual symptpms that everyone else in my home is having aren't that bad for me. I'm just worn out and achey.

It might be worth going to the Dr about the low grade fever and body aches. They may just say it's viral, but you should have it checked out if it's ongoing. Hope you feel better soon.

Take over-the-counter pain relief, go along to the local Pharamcist to ask which is the best for your current symptoms, that's what they are designed for  ::)  -   not your GP unless advised - because there is a nasty Germ across the UK.  It has to run it's Course, I've had it twice  ::) fortunately not too many aches and pains except due to coughing.  Drink plenty of warm mixtures - my aged (99) friend swears by hot whisky with lemon ;-).  When I had it throughout May I had vicious reflux so taking medication to ease symptoms, even taking a hot drink, caused problems  :-\

Nowt to be prescribed in the way of ABs unless the chest is wheezy.  Get into the fresh air if possible, keeping nose and mouth covered to stop cold air getting into the air-ways.  Don't have the house too dry as that aggravates the already sensitive nose/mouth/ears.

Thanks ladies. It's for sure only a virus. Four in my house have had it. I do have slight drainage and ticklish ears, but aside from that I've been spared all the coughing and runny nose so far. I'm having a hard time with how low it's making me feel, given that I'm not very sick. My fever did go high enough to warrant taking a pain and fever med this afternoon, and it did help considerably. Interestingly, to me anyway, when my temperature went higher my aches disappeared even before taking a tablet.

Do you go to work, I can't remember  :-\.  REST!  listen to your body.  If your immune system is low enough to catch a virus then the rest of you will feel low.  Be kind to you  ;)  :foryou: ……….

Sometimes temperatures 'peak' at certain times of the day with these viruses.  Do you have a thermometer, maybe take your temp 3 times a day ……..

The evil virus that is doing the rounds here and laid both myself and husband out for 10 days is affecting people slightly differently. He had flu symptoms as in aches but no temp  for about a week. When I got it I had slight temp but no aches!  He had a cough but I had what sounded like whooping cough and I almost completely lost my voice whereas he didn't. He had a pouring nose whereas I didn't but had loads of sinus pain.  I got better suddenly and fast whereas he took another 2 weeks to slowly get better.   We all react differently to the same viruses.

If its this virus that you have then expect to be at least 10 days before you feel even remotely better.  We could not leave the house when we had it.

Hope your feeling better soon.  If you haven't had any routine blood tests in past year then when you are recovered its worth having a full blood count in case you are aneamic or something as this will impact on your immune system.

Thank you! At the moment I'm feeling much better since I'm taking meds for the fever. I'm always hesitant to take anything these days. In my younger days I didn't think twice about popping a pill and going about my business. My husband is catching it now. He's congested and snotty today. By the time he gets over it, the youngest child will catch something else and we can begin the cycle again! It's her first year of school so I should expect a rough year until her immunity builds.

…….. and your immune system too!  Goes without saying that good bathroom hygiene is important including each member of the family having their own flannel and towel which needs boiling weekly ;-).  Has your husband 'man flu' or is he a non-moaner?

Oh the joys of small children!  My son and his wife were never well for the first 2 years after grandson went to nursery when he was 6 months old.
I also have a friend who went back to teaching as head of a nursery for 2-4 yr olds. for 2 years she was constantly ill but then hardly caught anything else after that. The first 6 months after i started work at a GP surgery I was always ill >:(

Hope you start to feel better soon, this time of year really is the worst.

CLKD, my husband handles sickness so well. He rarely complains and carries on his days mostly normally. He's only been to the doctor once for illness in at least 20 years. I am the one that gets man flu! My man flus started around the time my periods started skipping and I started sprouting a mustache  ;D I must be turning into a man!

Yes! Well, now that I've given in to taking something at the first hint of fever, I'm plowing through the day just fine.
