I read about the sadness about having to part with some pets.

there was an interview with a man talking about the evacuation and how when they turned up at the pier and saw the coal boat they were to go in, and changed their mind about going. Went home but by this time the pets had been killed, you could still hear the wee boy in him when he told the story.

There is an animal cemetery at Edinburgh Castle.

We have 8 pets and no one to look after them. We used to get away, only had 2 cats then and Stephen's Dad saw to them. He's in his 80's now.

We do get out, picnics and the like. Stephen's photography class has a day out each term and we go along, although by car because I take one look at a minibus and turn a very fetching shade of green. I'm beginning my Royal School of Needlework's Certificate course in September in Bristol. Stephen can enjoy a day wandering around Bristol Temple Meads Station - he loves trains - whilst I enjoy my challenge of the Jacobean module.

Well if the weather holds out we're off camping ( somewhere in SW England  ::) ) for a few days - maybe in a few days or sooner. Looks like rain though - but always good by the sea.

If we do go - well I hope things have calmed down when I come back ( weatherwise that is  ;) )

Have a great time Hurdity - it's good to have a change of scene even if it does rain! I've not been on here for a few days and can see that it's not only the weather which would benefit from a bit of calm!

Mine stayed in the cupboards last year cubagirl - at least a few weeks ago I actually put on a shift dress  :o and it still fitted  ;D

Apart from a quick visit to C Mum soon no over-night plans made: too much cycling on TV  :D

From your forum name, Lanzalover, I'm guessing you must really like the place.  I've never been to Lanzarote - what's it like??

Lanzalover we've been in November a couple of times before our son started school, great time to go.
Dulciana Lanzarote is fab, I love it there, loads to do, lovely beaches, great food & very friendly. We stayed in Puerto del Carmen twice & Playa Blanca once. I only liked the old town/marina in Puerto del Carmen, main beach strip is full of English pubs & food not my scene, but the beach and promenade are lovely. Playa Blanca is where we will go back to sometime soon, I hope!

Sorry never been to Kefalonia but work with a girl who really rates the Greek islands she always goes in September and always has fab weather.Think she has been to all the different islands over the years.

DH and I went to Crete in May over 30 years ago for two weeks this was back in the day of package hols and you got a meal in little plastic tray on the flight needles to say DH got gravy down the front of his sweat shirt so when we arrived I washed it and put it on the balcony to dry not knowing that for the next ten days it would rain every day we watched this sweat shirt getting wetter and wetter and bigger and bigger in the end it was the size of a bath towel ! We obviously picked the wrong two weeks as neighbours went a couple of months later and they both ended up with sun stroke !

Needles to say we have never been back but we can laugh about now (it took a long time) but it's still referred to as the holiday from hell 😀

Anyway I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Hi dulciana

Yes I love Lanzarote in fact we own an apartment in Playa Blanca which was was once a little fishing village but has grown over the years but still retains a village feel in the town centre.

There are lovely little villages in the centre of the island well worth visiting and little villages on the coast with just a few fish restaurants overlooking the sea which are lovely for lunch or dinner while watching the lovely sunsets.

If you ever decide to visit let me know and I'll happily give you more info on places to visit.

Yorkshire Girl

Yes November is a lovely month to visit we have been every month except February although we don't go in July and August now as we try to avoid school holidays (sons all grown up now) and post meno I find it to hot.

We have gone in November for the last six years or so as Tias the village above Puerto del Carmen holds a mini tapa week you get a map and a list of bars and restaurants participating you go in and for €3 get to sample their entry plus a glass of wine or small beer you then get them to stamp your entry and when you have sampled them all you vote for your favourite prizes if your entry gets picked out.

The week starts on a Friday evening and they have bands playing and dancing in the town it's a really good night but the bars do get very busy that night  so we usually end up going back one afternoon to try and visit the ones we didn't get to on the Friday last year there were about ten participating bars, but each year there seem to be more.If you are ever over again in November it's well worth a visit.

Thanks for that Lanzalover, will make a note!
Salad yes we've been to Kefalonia back in May 2008. Stayed in a villa in Lourdas. Lovely island, lots to explore, took ferry from Argostoli to Lixouri well worth doing. If you want any more info, just ask!☺
