New and miserable
« on: January 08, 2016, 03:11:39 PM »

Hi! I'm actually a few years into this, but in recent months it has become overwhelming. I'm 39, have young kids, and falling apart. I've read this forum for encouragement.

Hi Lizab

I too was 39 when all this rubbish started and it took me a while to realise what was going on.  I started with foggy head and not able to think straight, then I had a panic attack during a cycle event and thought "where did that come from", then things went on from there.  Anxiety, legthargy, night sweats etc.  I went back and forward to the GP, everytime telling her it was to do with my cycle, that I'd be fine for 2 weeks then it would all start again, month after month.  I tried hypnotherapy, mindfulness, meditation, yoga retreats, you name it I've done it.  My other half is demented with the amount of money I have spent trying to make myself better! It is so frustrating to say the least.  My kids are also young and thought I had passed the anxious stages having suffered from PND with both of them.  Now on researching it would appear your more likely to suffer peri-menopause if you have been suceptable to PMT or PND which I have had both.

What stage are you at with your cycle?  Do you still get periods?  I have a Mirena Coil and get break through bleeding every 25 days.  I have found that reflexology is good for helping with the anxiety, but have yet to find anything else to help with all the other symptoms.

Keep in touch, it would seem we are going through the same things.  I am about to start on low dose HRT patches this week.

Take care and keep strong

hi lizab. Much support and best wishes to you. I'm 55 now and only just started on HRT and recognising so many awful symptoms over the years have been hormonal due to my zero knowledge of what was happening back then.
I look back now and realise that also having had PND in my early 20's twice and always had bad PMT, I started menopause round about late 30's too, but due to somewhat chaotic life circumstances at that time, was sent down the mental health path by the doctors I saw back then who only ever suggested antidepressants and/or tranquillisers.
This forum is such a tremendous resource that I am sure you will find ways to cope, and knowledge is very empowering.
I hope your day is going ok.

:bighug:   What stage are you at now?  What symptoms are you finding hardest to deal with?  Hope you are able to find something to help.  x

I think I'm considered late transition. I am past the periods every two weeks, the month long light periods/spotting, and the floods. Well, I hope that's all finished! I skipped periods for 4 months, then they returned and we're surprisingly regular for about 6 months, then skipped 4 more, and now haven't had one since November. I felt great in November. My symptoms seem to be like a PMS that snowballs into something huge when my period doesn't come. I say my anxiety is the worst, but really it's the irritability. I have a hard time thinking as clearly now and multitasking, so it takes very little to frustrate me and send me into a panicked fit. The dizziness is hard. And the crying is my most out of character symptom, though I seem to feel better after a good blubbering, so I'm learning to like that one. Thanks for the support, ladies! It helps to know I'm not alone.

Are you getting any help from your GP?  What about HRT?  39 is really young to be going through this, so it would be good to look at HRT if you are able to.

I see you commented on my other thread, but yes, I've begun hrt. My gp is fantastic. I don't think he knows what he's doing with menopause treatment, but who does? He's understanding and trying, which is more than I can say for the group of female gynecologists and midwives I had been seeing.

Glad you've got a good GP.  I'd far rather have a sympathetic male GP than an unsympathetic female one.  Fortunately, at the moment, I have a female GP who is wonderful! Hope you get some good results soon.
