Hi, I'm Jan, I'm new on here and this is my first post.
I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing at the moment is the onset of hot flushes. I'm generally a 'cold' person, I'll often snuggle on the sofa with a hot water bottle if the OH objects to putting the heating on, and usually have my hot water bottle in bed right up until about May. But things have changed in the last couple of weeks. I feel a lot warmer much of the time and the rest of the family are amazed that I'm sitting around in a strappy top when normally I'd be wearing my fleecy onsie. In bed at night, I'm having trouble sleeping because I'm too hot, it's like all the hot air gets trapped under the duvet with me and creates a furnace. I'm not drenched in sweat, like I've read some women are, just hot and I have to fling off the bed clothes or lie on the top. It's like my thermostat's gone wrong. Added to which, very frequently in the day, I suddenly get even hotter. It's a sort of prickly hot and I go clammy on my upper body, arms and back of the neck, which I can only describe as feeling as if I've just got out of a hot bath. I don't really get a hot face or go red. Is this it??
I'm 51, 52 in November and my periods have been bonkers for about 18 months. I used to be fairly regular, but now, looking at the app on my phone, in the last months I've gone, 25, 48, 16, 26, 90, 22, 34, 54 days. I'm currently 62 days since my last one.
Although I'm healthy, a reasonable weight, exercise regularly and eat fairly well, I've had a tendency to health anxiety over the last 5 or so years, and before I go off at the deep end and convince myself I've got lymphoma or something awful, I thought that this might be the more logical answer. I've even taken my temperature loads of times during the past couple of weeks, convinced I've got a fever, but it's been in the normal range.
I don't really want to bother the doctor at the moment, it's not a vast problem right now, but I'd just like to know if this is it, or whether I ought to be worried about my health.
