hello newby here
« on: July 23, 2015, 05:31:06 PM »

Hi
Went to gp and said I thought I needed hrt. He suggested having a look on here then go and see him again in a few weeks.

So as someone with fibroids, had endometrial ablation last year,  type 2 diabetic for 12 years, fluctuates between insulin last year and tablets again this year.under active thyroid, osteoarthritis arthritis in both knees all at the age of 49 I'm having a great time lol.

However turning point has been lots of hormone issues, pmt symptoms way worse than ever had before. Wanting to throw tin of peas at hubby in tesco, always warm or hot, 3 random bouts of nausea , mood swings and I'm not a moody person usually laid back - not now!

Assume I'm peri menopause not sure how long I have been though.

Just wondered what the best type of hrt would be for me to try. I fancy trying patches though as I take enough tablets as it is. And would prefer the continuous option to avoid periods due to fibroids and having the ablation to try and stop / reduce them .

Hi bev18

 :welcomemm:

Oh dear you have got a lot on your plate!

Re HRT - all the different types of continuous combined ones are listed here:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/postmeno.php

Oestrogen only here
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/treatafter.php

and progestogen only here:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/to_progestogens.php

Presumably as you've had the ablation and have fibroids the doc will be OK with continuous combined even if you are not post-menopausal yet? Have you thought of a Mirena coil - which delivers progestogen directly to the womb lining - or is this too powerful a progestogen for someone who's had an ablation (ie could thin the lining too much)?

Otherwise as you can see there are two combi patches (Evorel and Femseven) or you can use oestrogen patch or gel with separate progestogen such as Utrogestan - natural progesterone ie bio-identical to that in our bodies. This is usally taken orally though, but can be used off-licence vaginally to minimnise side effects if your are sensitive to it, but not advisable if you have a partner for obvious reasons!

Hope this helps and do ask again if you want any further advice and we'll see if we can help :)

Thank you hurdity I'll look at those links.

They couldn't do mirena last year due to the cavity in womb it was a bit more than 10cms something like that, so God knows whether they've shrunk or not.

Gynae doctor in March post op review thought I'd started peri and said they  should start shrinking due to less hormones. I think they've grown but gp might get that checked again perhaps x
