Anyone out there on HRT in NE Scotland?
« on: June 14, 2015, 08:50:46 AM »

Hello,

I'm 64 and have been on HRT since I had hysterectomy and ovaries removed 12 years ago.  I have great doctors where I live now outside Aberdeen and they are very supportive with my HRT needs.  My problem is that I am moving to Morayshire, still in Grampian Region in the near future and I am worried that my new surgery may not be as supportive. Is there anyone from Moray reading this who is on HRT?

Many thanks

Hi Hunkable

Welcome to MM  :welcomemm:

I don't live in Scotland so can't help you out there. I believe there is one lady in NE Scotland, though whether she is from Moray I don't know. Hopefully somebody will be along soon who knows about the area.

Perhaps your current doctors know what the situation is in the Moray region, might be worth a chat.

Cuba Girl is in the North East but she is in Aberdeen. I don't think we have anyone from the region you are moving to. Could you ask your own GP if they know of a good practise or perhaps look online as a lot of surgeies have websites detailing what they do and if a particular docor has a speciality.

Welcome from me too.

Your notes will travel.  Have a chat with your Surgery and ask for advice, if you look on the various Surgery web-sites in your new area you can see which Clinics they hold and if there is a Practice Nurse or Nurse Practioner who can prescribe.  Find out if there are Pharmacies too  -  they may know who supports menopause 'the best'  ;)

If your current treatment works then your treatment should continue.  Have a browse round!

Hi everyone,

Many thanks for your kind suggestions.  I have spoken to my doctor and she doesn't think I'll have any problems but when you've been to hell and back over the years getting yourself on an even keel, the thought of having an awkward doctor scares the living daylights out of me.  There is only one Surgery where we're going but quite a few doctors there, so hopefully I'll find someone on my side. I always have a feeling that the medical profession want you off of HRT as soon as possible but when it makes me well, why would I ever come off unless I really have to. My symptoms are bad even if my levels drop a bit.  The suggestion to ask the Pharmacist is very good and I hadn't thought of that. If all else fails I may have to seem someone privately.

Thanks again ladies

Hi there. I'm in Aberdeen, but there is a menopause clinic at ARI, I was referred there & if I'm not mistaken there is a menopause clinic at Dr Gray's in Elgin. That of course  maybe too far away from where you're moving to. When I've moved in the past I've asked current GP for name of a Doctor in new area. Or you could ask new neighbours to recommend someone.  Sorry not much help otherwise.
