2 weeks in on Estradot 25mcg - headaches
« on: May 23, 2015, 10:18:46 AM »

Hi all.

Well eventually started my estradot patches and now just over 2 weeks in. I'm sleeping better and my hot flushes are less intense, and not so many, but still there at the moment.

After checking with Dr Currie planning on starting utrogestan on the 1st, so I have an easy to remember date to use!

Only problem at the moment is the last week I've woken with a dreadful headache every morning. I do get a lot of headaches, and also get migraines so I was worried about headaches on hrt (which is why I'm using patches). Only thing that gets rid of these headaches is one of my migraine pills, and that's not really a viable long term coping plan. I had to go into work late one day during the week as had to wait until the headache had cleared, have also been feeling a bit nauseous when I get the headaches.

The headaches are really getting me down, I work full time and at a computer all day and a bad headache is no fun! After a hip replacement in December last year and 3mths off I also don't want to take any more time off work than I have to.

I am on the point of stopping because I think it's the patches causing the headaches, I haven't had headaches on this every day basis for well over 6 mths (although I would get headaches like this prev when I had a period due). But I'm still hoping flushes will go even more as they make life at work pretty difficult for me too! And I dread the full on flushes coming back.

Decisions, decisions!! xx

Hi justaboutcping. It's easy to blame HRt for headaches and other symptoms but I think your headaches could possibly be tension.  You say you sit at a computer all day and you may not be getting enough exercise like brisk walking and fresh air that would really ease tension.  Is your neck and upper back tender to touch or can you feel knots? If your office environment is not good - no natural light etc. - then perhaps you need to counter this but getting out at lunch break, get some sunshine and fresh air if possible. Perhaps try some yoga or Mindful Meditation. I sometimes wake up with a headache if my bedroom is too hot and stuffy - open windows to air the room before bed and do some relaxation before you go to sleep.  A good massage might be a good idea? Just some thoughts that might help? I wouldn't give up on HRT yet - things might settle.  DG x

Hi

I started on Estradot 25mg 6 weeks ago. I had quite a sharp headache most days for the first couple of weeks. Anadin Extra only took it off for a couple of hours. Not great.

But it finally disappeared and haven't really had one for the last 3 weeks. I upped my dose to 50mg 2 weeks ago but didn't have any headaches then.

Hi all. Thanks for the tips and info :) DG yes I do also think it might be tension but the only time I've had these type of wake up every day with a headache type phases has been in the lead up to a period over the last couple of years - in fact as they became more sporadic it was the only notice I got I might be coming on.

It's difficult when you have a history of headaches to tell what's going on to be honest> When I get a migraine I normally wake up with it early hours of the morning and throw up all day - none of those for a while thank goodness!

I try to always take a walk lunchtimes at work and we always sleep with a window open (even in depths of Winter) as the hubby runs hot :) Nothing much else has changed much after the HRT so that's what makes me blame it first, but if course it could be complete coincidence. I'm prob still recovering after the hip op, easy to forget it was a major op. Because I'm a bit younger than the average for a replacement everyone seems to think you should be completely back to normal in no time!

GypsyRoseLee reassuring to know that yours went, I think I will plug on for another couple of weeks and see how it goes.

And lancashirelass I am thinking I may need to up the dose as flushes not under control yet, but prob too early to change things yet. Not sure how long everything should take to kick in??

Am really hoping I don't react too badly to the utrogestan when I start taking that, am exhausted enough as it is!

I spent getting on for a year thinking about it and researching before I finally plucked up courage to start the HRT so don't think I'm prepared to throw in the towel yet :)
