Odd feeling
« on: May 09, 2015, 10:19:16 PM »

Not too good tonight, must be having one of my blips as i call them. Started off fine this morning and about mid afternoon became really tired yawning a lot as though i wasn't getting enough oxygen, headache was starting to so i took some painkillers. Have been feeling odd on and off all evening, one minute not too bad, the next feeling as though i have a wave of fear coming over me, kind of creepy feeling, YUK. Scared to fall asleep because i seem to wake up with a start and panic feeling for a few seconds. Anyone else get this ? Hope you are all having a better Saturday night than me.  :(

Yep. Anxiety causes it with me, though not so bad since I started tablets.

I had this too.  Not pleasant at all.  I think was anxiety.

Hello jgr

I also have experience of this and I've always thought it was due to a wave of adrenalin but I could be wrong. It often happens on waking and that is a really horrible feeling.

The other day I was so tired I needed a nap but any benefit was lost when I woke up with a start and immediately felt anxious!

I am using Evorel Conti patches atm and although still troublesome, the hormonal surges do feel less intense.

Sorry I can't be of more help, I just wanted you to know you are not alone.

Take care.

The sudden waking can be a drop in blood sugar or the start of an adrenaline hormonal surge - how is your diet generally?

Yes me too, a wave of anxiety, like a cold feeling of dread or fear. Very unpleasant and stops you in your tracks. Happens to me when my hormones are fluctuating ie just before or after my period.

Thank you for your replies ladies. It is horrid and i am sure you are right with the drop in sugar and adrenalin rushes, our bodies are all going to pot  :'(  Diet not too bad CLKD, do try to eat sensibly but not a very big eater. I do agree with you Kathleen about patches making things less intense, i am dreading coming off them eventually. xx

Hi CLKD, sorry it took so long to reply, i have heard that you should not be on HRT over 60 as it increases the chance of breast cancer, i am 57 at the moment and i thought if i started weaning myself off them in a year i would probably be able to cope by the time i was off them completely. xx

Hi jgr

The risks of getting breast cancer from HRT are thought to be less than drinking too much alcohol, being overweight, sedentary lifestyle and the absolute risk is very very small. You need to look at all areas of your lifestyle and make sure you are minimising your cancer risks overall. Here is the information on this website:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/risks.php

Also much of the risk information is based on the now discredited WHI study - because there were flaws in the experimental design and bio-identical oestrogen given transdermally, along with "breast friendly" progesterone is also thought to be associated with least risk.

According to this website between the ages of 60 and 70 the benefits are thought to equal the risks:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/balance.php

Most gynaecologists also now do not recommend that women need to come off HRT at 60 and can stay on it as long as they wish provided this decision is an informed one. I reported on my recent visit to a private gynae who was happy for me to stay on indefinitley, health permitting ( I am 62) and a couple of years agpo when I had just turned 60 an NHS gynae whom I had to see for a hysteroscopy/biopsy also said he was happy for me to continue.

Of course it is a personal decision and you need to do what's right for you - but no-one should tell you that you have to come off them!

Hurdity x  :)

Thanks for that post Hurdity, read it all again and i will stay on as long as possible as i do worry about symptoms coming back, some i could cope with some not so well. I don't drink alcohol, smoke or am i overweight so i have no worries there and my diet is quite good. Happy days then  :) xx

I still cannot believe how some GP's have very little knowledge on the menopause CLKD. Although we didn't get a lot of information from our parents and grandparents as it was something not to discuss. I have made sure my daughter knows exactly what i am going through so she is well informed when her time comes. xx

Yes I know exactly what you describe. I think of it as an adrenaline surge, though there's never any reason for me to have one. A few nights ago it took ages for me to drop off to sleep, and when I did I kept waking with that horrible panicky-surge feeling. Horrible.

At the same time I get intense prickly-tingles starting in the tops of my buttocks and then going down the back of each leg. I have experienced these since my teens and they happen when I am feeling anxious or anticipating something nice/nasty. Except now they happen for absolutely no reason at all, when I'm sitting on the sofa with a book and or relaxing in the bath.

They happen much less often during the first half of my cycle, barely there at all. But in the second half they get quite intense and once they start I know my mood is going to dip shortly.
