I just wondered as lots of us have started off really not wanting to go down the HRT route, almost as if we would be "giving in", and eventually it has been necessary in order to at least have some quality of life.

Sorry about your aunt and I can see your worry over breast cancer but it's not that clear cut. You have to have had two close family members i.e. mum,   grandmother or sister with an oestrogen receptive breast cancer for you to be at any extra risk. Also, any HRT risks don't begin until after the normal meno age of 51ish. HRT taken before this time is merely replacing what your body should have been making naturally and has a protective effect on both heart and bones.

As for the aches in arms and back - have you had your vitamin D level checked?

I have been to see my doctor, well actually I saw a locum and he was lovely.  He actually listened to me and didn't make me feel that I was wasting his time.  His first bet is a vitamin D deficiency or hormones.  He has requested the following blood test - creatinine and electrolytes, liver profile, bone profile, gamma GT, CK, FSH, ferritin, rheumatoid screen, CRP, serum B12, serum folate, FBC, ESR and vitamin D level.  So pretty much covering everything.

Feeling a lot better mentally after seeing him but still aching :)

Fingers crossed Jedigirl that they get us sorted.  Something is causing us to feel like we do.  How did you get a sick note, wish I could get a week off :)

the GP offered it when i said how much i was struggling at the moment. Shes stated menopausal symptoms and exhaustion on the note! Not sure how that will go down at work. I may not even use it if I feel ok next week. Am disappointed my nearest meno clinic has a ten week waiting list  ???

It's crazy that you have to wait so long, but at least you are headed in the right direction.  Keep us updated with you blood results.

With a bit of luck i'll be through the menopause by then, or lost the plot completely!

Hi Toffiecushion.  I'm so glad I found this forum quite by accident today!  I'm not expeirencing the same symptoms as you but I am feeling so completely fed up with it all.  I told someone today I feel as though I've hit a full stop.  i'm 50 in a month's time.  My youngest daughter goes to uni in September and my eldest moves to her new home in August - suddenly I've become useless...surplus to the requirements of the human race!  ;)  I hope to find and offer support on here and sincerely hope you are soon smiling and offering advice to those of us also facing all of this! :)

Hi Toffeecushion

Just wanted to say sorry to hear you've been feeling so awful, these hormones have a lot to answer for! Hopefully you'll get some help soon. I know how terrible fluctuating hormones can make you feel, mine seem to battle with my HRT sometimes and the anxiety hits hard, but am sure the HRT helps me overall. Sending a big hug   :bighug:

Hello Jedigirl,

I'm not too bad today thanks, have a headache coming and I am noticing more aches and pains as each day goes by.  I think I have become so used to aching that I have just accepted it as normal and now I am noticing them more.  But I am trying to just get by until my results come in.  I hope they pick something up, but not sure they will.

How are you today?  Enjoying your time off :)

Doctor has just phoned me - I have low vitamin D and iron.  I am going to see the nurse next week to pick up a prescription and I assume some advice on diet etc to increase my levels.  Not bad service as I only had the blood test done at 4.30 yesterday afternoon.

Wow toffeecushion that was quick!
Hope you can adjust your levels and feel better quickly. Were you very low on your levels? Will you be able to manage it with diet?
At least you can feel like you're doing something.
Does anything help your aches and pains?

Now you have something to work with!

I had breast disease but if I was suffering anywhere near like some ladies here, I would insist on HRT.  Quality, ladies, quality!  ;)
