I feel such a mess :(
« on: April 14, 2015, 05:21:06 PM »

How do I get my mojo back? I feel so old and ugly and worthless, I  am drinking too much and smoking too much, I want to exercise, because I know it will make me feel better! I feel like my life is spiralling out of control and I don't know how to get the old me back. I feel so sad all of the time, I have been to the docs and he gave me some antidepressants , but I didn't like them. I never sleep and work full time, so it is hard to concentrate some of the time, I  into my second year of the menopause and I hate it, but I know I have no choice as it is part of life,  I just feel as if I don't do something now, I will be too old to enjoy my life!

Hi kazzy - welcome to the forum. Lots of us have felt like you so you are not alone although it can feel as if you are the only one going through this.

What menopause symptoms do you have and have you considered HRT or any of the supplements?

Welcome to the Forum Kazzy  :)

I am sorry to hear you are struggling. There's plenty of us here who completely understand what you're going through.

Menopause does have to happen but you certainly don't need to suffer through it. GPs are far too eager to hand out ADs which aren't necessarily the best way to treat your depression/insomnia especially if they are being caused by your hormones. Many consultant gynaecologists are concerned that GPs are prescribing ADs to menopausal women when what they really need is HRT.

Many years ago I had PND. I was treated with ADs for nearly 3 years but they never really worked for me. Just switched off all my emotions and turned me into a robot. Looking back I should have been treated with hormones which would have alleviated my anxiety and depression and given me back a range of 'normal' happier emotions.

Take a look at Professor John Studd's website. He talks about hormonal related anxiety and depression. If you recognise yourself from his descriptions you could well benefit from HRT. Just trail 3 months of HRT, you have nothing to lose.

:welcomemm: have a browse round, we don't bite  ;)

You recognise that you are smoking and drinking too much, is there anything you could do otherwise at the times you light up or pour a drink?  That way you regain control of 2 issues which is the starting point of feeling brighter!

I know where your coming from kazzy :(

I have no "mojo" at all and like you I started to have a glass of wine every night which led to 2 glasses every night :-\ the constant aching joints really get me down and owning my own business is no fun when you cant sleep!

My only solice is Im an avid mountain biker, have been for 25 years so EVERY day come rain or shine Im out there doing my usual 15miles ;) I hobble like an old witch when I get off but for those 15miles I feel no pain and FREE!!!!!

I used to love going out, especially for dinner but now I cant be bothered, like you I feel "ugly" and "old".....I can wear high heels because my ankles hurt so much :(

Isnt it fun getting old......NOT!

I feel your pain! I look in the mirror and hate what I see. I've become so thin and frail, my skin is hanging on me, greasy hair, I'm so low. I look at my Mum who is 77 and she looks so vibrant despite going through an early menopause too. Perhaps there is hope for us!
You have the power to change some of those things when you get some energy back. Be kind to yourself, this is hard.
