Just to say hello
« on: March 09, 2015, 11:46:54 AM »

Hello, I just joined today, so thought I'd better introduce myself :)

I'm 43 and have been experiencing perimenopause stuff since my late 30s, getting more intense as time goes on, as you would expect.

I've had a variety of things - they seem to change all the time with new things constantly getting thrown at me (sound familiar?) - I've had migraines, vertigo, hot flushes, vagueness, clumsiness, oh all sorts of fun stuff.

The main reason I joined today was because I'm getting increasingly heavy bleeding, which I gather is normal, but it's just nice to be among others experiencing the same thing and get some support.

So, hello, and thanks for having me :)

Hi brownhare  :welcomemm: from me too.

How are your periods in terms of regularity?

If they are becoming infrequent you might like to start thinking about HRT as you are young to be experiencing menopause and it is advised to take it at least until the natural average age of menopause of 50-52 to help protect heart and bones  :)

I really don't want to take HRT, it's a personal thing but I'm pretty against anything that artificially messes with my hormones. I was only ever on the birth control pill for one year in my early twenties before coming off again. I just don't like being messed with like that.  I would rather things happened naturally.

Overall my periods have become closer together - I've never been that regular but had a broad average of around 32-36 day cycles. Now they're anything from 25 to 45 days. I keep track of them religiously, I always have lol. But with regards to this new pattern I seem to have I'm as regular as can be expected.

I'm not expecting actual menopause (actual stopping of periods) any time soon, although I often think it would be nice to not have to deal with periods any more. I'm still anaemic now from a horrendous period last week, massive clots etc.

The other issue is I have multiple fibroids, some of them calcified, which I've been dealing with since I first knew about them over 12 years ago. It's a long story but after many procedures etc I'm at a stage now where the only thing any medical person will offer me is a Merina coil, which I will not have just on principal, aside from the fact that one of my fibroids is right over my cervix (which meant I had to have a cesarean when I gave birth to our son), so how they think they would get a coil in there I don't know. In all honesty I've lost all faith in conventional medicine (again, it's a long story), and am managing my symptoms the best I can through diet and lifestyle choices I make.

Menopause is natural.  What you describe sounds 'within normal limits'.  However, you are young to be starting all this and HRT protects bones and heart.  Of course, osteoporosis and heart disease are 'natural' too but can be avoided.

You can only know if you are anaemic by blood tests.  Heavy bleeding does not always cause anaemic, I had clotting etc. through-out my menstrual 'life' and was never anaemic, even though I was anorexic from age 5 until ……….. my periods eventually faded away 'phew' without my realising it due to Life getting in the way, they became more and more apart and then stopped  :)

Browse round.  You may find as you go through this journey that 'natural' is so unpleasant that you will need to resort to HRT.  Once you are more informed you will find that HRT is exactly what is says on the tin : hormone *replacement* therapy  ;) - if you read threads by Member Hurdity and others who have a good awareness of the chemistry etc. you will get lots of information.  Menopause is the end of periods, usually judged when a lady hasn't bled for more than a year ……. however  ::)

Other symptoms can be unbearable, treatable, dealt with.  I have been lucky so far, the hardest issue being vaginal atrophy which felt like razor blades up there.  No way could I have continued without treatment! [we have a few threads on VA too  ::)].

Browse round, ask away …….

Hello brownhare and welcome to the forum.

I am one of those women whose periods became heavier and I was found to have a fibroid, albeit a small one.

I hope you can successfully manage the menopause in a way that suits you.

Best wishes and keep posting.

If you arm yourself with info from here then at least if you have to change your mind about HRT you will be informed  ;) and no treatment needs to be taken for ever if it isn't beneficial.

Looks like this poor lady has left, and she was only a member for a day.

What have we done??

Perhaps it was because she was not keen on HRT but that is what was suggested for her by forum members.

Easy does it

I did wonder what she was expecting as she seemed so against HRT  :-\ ……. but why not tell us!  Many have been firmly against HRT but as we know, symptoms become so awful that ladies have to try it!

But she did tell us.

Unfortunately she wasn't heard.

Well I don't think there was anything wrong with my suggestion - because as I said, if her periods were becoming infrequent (which she didn't say in her first post) then she was heading for an early menopause and especially if she had been experiencing this since her 30's. This is what all info on this site recommends. I thought she seemed happy with that and replied OK (with smiley face  :) ) ???

We are all doing our best to help....

I did wonder why she was here actually - if one doesn't want to consider HRT  :-\ …….. hey ho! some we win, others drift away ……. and she may be back once she's considered our responses  ;)

Support , friendship, some sympathetic ears.

We don't always have to want to be on HRT to come to this forum CLKD.

Maybe she will come back....as rosebud says....easy does it.

Not everyone wants to take HRT.
