She won't be living with us at that point so we may have to take our celebrations to Glasgow  ;D

Whatever she wants...it's her birthday.

I'm sure you will have a nice time no matter what you decide. We ran away for our 30th  ;D

Congratulations on 40 years - that's quite an achievement.

Off for a weekend break with DH so taking the dog to kennels at 7am  :o They've said he'll have breakfast when he gets there so he's not going to be impressed in the morning! He'll forgive us when we get to the road and the satnav says "... to kennels on right" as he adores going.

Back after a rather eventful trip! We arrived at the rental house, or rather road it was on  ??? in the dark, and the sign with the house number had fallen off the tree, so I spent 20 minutes wandering up random driveways with a temperamental torch until I found a house I recognised from a couple of pics I'd looked at weeks ago. DH amused himself testing out the car's turning circle  :-X

Once inside the house was like a sauna and they had NYLON sheets on the beds!!!!! The best scenery of the weekend was viewed at 50+ mph as we dashed to meet someone, and the drive home today involved several traffic jams after we both had a restless night. Apart from that we had a great time  ;)

Off to get the dog tomorrow - he'll ignore me when I arrive, then tell me all about his stay on the way home.

Glad you had a good holiday, getting_old - but nylon sheets!?!   Guess what age those owners are NOT?   ;D

I thought that nylon sheets went out with the Ark  ;D

Maybe next time pack a couple of cotton ones in case  :-\    :      (note to self ;-) )

I always take sheets - trouble was that I have sheets for a king size bed and these were twins  >:(  Anyway managed to fold them up and use them, which helped with the "waterproof" mattress topper!
Oh, forgot to mention, there was no hot water the first morning because the owners insisted the cleaning staff turn it off to save money (it's rented every weekend!!!).
Will not be returning to that place!

We are off on holiday tomorrow and I am a complete stress bucket today.  I know I have done it to myself, but I like to be in control.  So I have taken it on myself to wash, iron and pack for myself, my husband and our 2 grown up sons (who live at home).  It's been a little stressful.  I just want everything to be right and I know things will be forgotten if I don't organise things.  Going on holiday must rank amongst the most stressful things to do lol.

Years ago I would pack months in advance in case I had a panic attack and was unable to face it  :'(.
Now I have in my mind or on a list what is necessary to take and if we forget anything we can buy it  ;)

We've had a few odd lets in the past  ::) - 1 place which was let to students in Term time but holidays makers in busy season had the same bits of dog food under the sofa and Welsh dresser - I know because I had thrown them there the previous year  ;D and my dog hadn't found them …….. plus the pork chop bone down the edge of the settee ……. so much for paying cleaners then!

Have a lovely holiday.

Yuck - did you complain to the owners about finding the bone and food?
