What do you do at midnight tonight ?
« on: December 31, 2014, 10:58:41 AM »

Or at the Bells as we say in Scotland.

For us it will be watching rubbish TV and then shortly after midnight my daughter and her boyfriend will "first foot" us. They will stay for a short while and then we will go to bed.

It's a far cry from our younger days when we either went out or had a party in the house that lasted for hours.

New Years day will be at home with no visiting anyone. Just a nice quiet day....I hope  ;D

How do you bring in the New Year?

We have a nice meal, some champagne and are usually in bed before 12, waiting for the fireworks to stop banging  :o
I've never been very keen on New Year's Eve - boring eh!

I would much rather go to bed but my daughter wants to visit so what can you do except say......Oh yes that would be lovely  ;D

TV is normally rubbish and all I will want to do is sleep. Heck I sound old. Sure I should be partying or something  ;D

We had booked a nice hotel - dinner / dance.  But we have been ill over Christmas with bugs so I've cancelled and to be honest I'm relieved.   I like the idea of a NewYear and fresh start but I'm dreading it.  I've got major surgery in 13 days time and at this moment in time am feeling very down about many things in my life.  Sorry ladies - moaning again.

So HB to answer your question - we will probably have a simple meal ( tums not right ) definately a glass or 2 of champagne ( tum will have to cope) and probably go bed just after 12.

I have to make changes in my life and I suppose this is a good a time as any to start x

( in my younger days NYE was a big deal with lots of kissing strangers and getting very drunk - can't think of anything worse now!  )

Can't say I am fan of New Years eve.  It's just a change in the date as far as I'm concerned.  However, we usually watch Jules Holland on TV and go to bed when it's finished.  As this is about 2 hours past my normal bedtime it's quiet and effort.

Our wedding anniversary is on New Years Day so we usually have a nice meal on New Years Eve and then retire to bed with a bottle of something fizzy to watch TV. We save the last glass to see in the New Year, open any cards and wait for our two daughters to ring. Having all wished each other Happy New Year its off to sleep. New Years Day is a slow quiet day being grateful for what will be 43 years together. Best wishes to everybody for a happy, healthy and peaceful 2015.

 ;D we're growing old together then  ;)

For years we have gone to bed with a glass of something which may/not get drunk - usually before 11.30.  Years ago we had a TV in the bedroom on which Jules would be encouraging in the New Year [we know it's pre-recorded which takes the edge of somehow]: now we go to bed, drop off to sleep shortly be4 the locals let blasted fireworks off  >:( ………

We have a candle in the shape of a lump of coal somewhere - I usually put it on the breakfast table for the 1st.

So 'they' tell us, however, he was talking on a programme recently and intimated different  ::) as those 'stars' would be doing other things in sunnier climes ……..

Is it? Many programmes are recorded 'live'  ::) - we don't want to work on New Years Eve but expect entertainment  ;)

Usually I go to the local pub which has a private party. It's normally themed but it doesn't matter if you turn up in ordinary clothes. It lasts until around 3 a.m. and is a right giggle but this year, horror of horrors, the pub is closed as the landlord has a better offer! Not sure what to do now. Me and OH are going up there soon for a New Years Eve lunchtime drink but as for tonight I just don't know. Hate the thought of being in but I guess I'll cope!  ;D

A Pub closed on New Years Eve - do you expect it to open any time soon  :-\ - this happened to a 'local' about 10 years ago - next thing we knew, it was demolished …….  :o

It's ok CLKD - it's not one of a chain. It's a freehouse so owned by the landlord outright. He doesn't have to answer to any brewery. It's a real ale pub. He always closes Christmas Day too. He believes that although profits are important family are more important and this family occasion was  something he didn't want to miss out on and, also, he doesn't feel it's right to ask his staff to do without their usual NYE fun by having to work to cover his absence. It will be open tomorrow -  although I'd best pop along to check  ;D
