Didn't sleep much last night, so I suspect I'll fall asleep before midnight. Hard enough to keep my eyes open now. Happy New Year!

The plan is to be in bed asleep.
The last couple of years we've stayed up to see the NY in - not this year...........

we had friends coming round for a quiet dinner in, but they cancelled this morning due to her having a sore throat. So just a quiet night for the 2 of us. I don't mind at all, hope OH doesn't either - he's still at work.

Probably have a glass or 2 and might have a kir. I love it  ;) Also they say that the better quality the wine/champagne/fizz, the better it is for you. I'm sure that's true  ;D

Whether you're partying or just on your own, here's wishing you a peaceful and happy new year.

Possibly have a drink tonight on my own then off to bed with my kindle. All sorted for tomorrow though - got the makings of a proper New Years dinner in - free range chicken, stuffing, roast pots and veg even though it's just for me. Looking forward to a New Year!

Been up since 5.30 as I was in work today, so I don't think I will be awake at midnight. 💤💤💤💤💤💤 Got people coming round for a meal but I dont think they will stay late.

I can't remember a year when I haven't been awake at midnight on New Year's Eve- maybe once or twice when I had very small babies and needed my sleep!

Sometimes we go out if there is a party somewhere - but not often. Since the village pub has closed we more often than not stay in - with Jools, champers and let off a rocket at midnight.  We turn over to watch/hear Big Ben 5 mins before so we know when to let it off! We live almost 25 miles from nearest city (Exeter) where I presume they have fireworks and our village is deadly silent, hence the single rocket! They used to ring out (church bells) the old year and in the new - but no longer. Even when it was open we didn't used to stay in the pub at the turn of the year anyway - couldn't stand being groped and kissed at midnight by unknown or barely known beery old men  :o. Mind you if they were younger ..... ;D (not that that would happen now anyway!!!!!). Apologies if that sounds ageist!!! We don't have special meal - husband is cooking spag bol, and the only son left here is then going to a party (where else?).

Tomorrow there is the annual village walk along the lanes and hills which is great and then repair to the village hall for soup and nosh, and hopefully also some New year drinks (in the absence of the pub). We usually do a roast something on NY Day (evening) and hopefully our son will not be too hung over!

First-footing and the like doesn't seem to be much of a tradition in England. Not round here anyway (SW). My mum used to bring pieces of coal or something?

Hope everyone has an enjoyable evening - even if asleep!

We'll open the back doors to let out the old year just before the bells start and open the front doors on the bells to let the New Year in. Prosecco chilling ready for action.

I have a coq au vin slowly filling the house with deliciousness.
DH, DD, DS and I will be playing games tonight as our village pub is closed too. We have Harry Potter Scene It game, and Trivial Persuit to keep us going. I might make a cocktail or two help the games.
Tomorrow we are having Christmas dinner... The full monty!

Happy New Year to all of you lovely ladies  :-*

Hello ladies.

It's just hubby and me tonight as both daughter and son live and work away. We were invited out but the thought of all the noise etc didn't appeal to me so we'll be watching television instead.

All this talk of Scotland (plus the fact that my daughter now lives in Edinburgh ) has reminded me of the time my husband was asked to go first footing. It was before I knew him and he and his parents were visiting my future brother in law in Dumfries. From midnight it was arranged that hubby would knock on the doors of as many homes as possible and ask to come in, bringing his lump of coal with him. The fact that he was a dark haired stranger was even better and he was welcomed wherever he went. Lots of wee drams were drunk and future BIL was considered a hero for putting on a good show!

Whatever happens at midnight tonight I wish all the ladies on MM a harmonious and happy new year.

See you in 2015.

We do the front and back door thingy and first footing with a lump of coal if we are in. It's harder to find a dark haired person nowadays since husband has turned grey!

I never go to bed until after midnight anyway so that part is easy to achieve!

I'm half Scottish so NYE was very important and exciting when I was a child, and I was allowed to stay up for the bells. To this day, I still get excited about it - I just can't imagine going to bed early.

OH and I will be doing our usual - staying at home, probably alternating Jools Holland with some CDs, then opening a bottle of Cava at midnight and staying up for a bit playing with the cats.

Went to the gym today and then to a Roy Lichtenstein exhibition (gotta have a bit of culcha!) so I'm not sure how long either of us will stay up.

Happy New Year everyone.
