can't stop crying
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:43:40 PM »

Does anyone know if crying is related to high or low estrogen? Been on estrogel for couple of months and had ovaries shut down to give me a more stable dose. Last weekend felt back to myself but from Monday all symptoms back and can't hold in any tears.  Really painful breasts so taking evening primrose oil.I have tingling around scalp which usually happens when changing doses . Does has not changed. How can I be fine then turn into a wreck again

I cry quite a lot and have done for the past 2 years. For me it does start the week before period and last for a week after. The other 2 weeks of the month I don't cry so I know mine is hormonal. xx

Hi donnacrichton

The weepiness is usually associated with low oestrogen or the pms when progesterone drops suddenly just before the period - so it is the changes as well as oestrogen deficiency. If you have been put into artificial menopause through shutting down your ovaries then it will take a while for your body to settle because it is the same as having surgical menopause I would imagine. Your testosterone levels will also have dropped if it works the same as menopause ie they are completely shut down, so this will also give rise to symptoms.

I cried a lot during peri-menopause (although at the time I didn't know this was the reason) - and it is usally down to hormonal fluctuations as above but not high oestrogen which should make you feel alive and energised.

I do hope your hormones stabilise soon so that you feel better. Is your gynae able to help?

Hi

sorry your having such a bad time.

Just wondered? ...

Are you using the increased dose of estrogel at the same time each day.
Are you using the higher dose all at that same time.
Are you using gel due to thinking its safer than tablet form.
Do you feel bad after estrogel or later in the day or all the time.

It could be that the having the increased estrogel all at the same time is not getting absorbed properly thus leaving you short of estrogen.

You could spread out the larger dose over the whole day. Try half in the morning then half again in the evening.
The benefit of the tablet form is that your guaranteed the intake and other factors can't really affect its absorption (bar being sick). You can also take a 1mg in the morning and another 1mg in the evening when on tablet form if you needed to spread your intake out during the day to make you feel more stable and balanced.

A lot of us just take our tablet in the morning and all is ok, others have to adjust things to make things work for the full day.

Hope you feel better again soon.

Thank you I am taking 3 pumps in the morning. I had asked the consultant and he says all in one go. I tried tablet form and had no joy. Was on estradot patches and they worked great for seven weeks then all went haywire. They thought if I was using gel I could adjust it to how symptoms were but this has been a disaster. It is so frustrating as twice once with estradot and last weekend felt back to myself fir it to come crushing down again. So there is something that will work just can't find it. This has been the worst tears in a long time. So gutted thought we had found it. I have managed to work through the last two years but have been off work now fir 4 weeks getting me down

I have noticed I do get a bit of relief at night. I get estrogel in the morning any ideas?

Hi Donna

it makes no sense to put it all on in one go.

You need the estrogen throughout the whole day.

Your body and liver will try and process things as quickly as you push it in.
If you push too much then its not going to work to best effect.

If your finding relief overnight then that would indicate that your bodies used up the estrogen and levels would be falling at that time.

If you take 3 pumps then you could try 1 in the morning 1 in the afternoon and 1 in the evening.

It could be that your bodies just getting too much all at once and this is causing the emotional roller coaster.

If you try out a gap between each then you should see at which point you start to feeling weepy again.

There is no danger in trying this. Especially as putting on all 3 at once is not working at all.

Hope you try, adjust things and get better

Hello donnacrichton.

Sorry to hear that you have been suffering. I have a friend who has what you describe so I know how difficult it can be to manage, especially when you work.

I have no experience of the pump but when I read that your consultant said use all three doses at once that did seem a little odd. So many ladies on this site talk about spreading the dose through the day and tweaking it as necessary.

I see that you are already trying this as suggested by peegeetip so let us know how it goes.

Take care.

Update 2nd day on split doses and still no bleeding  have anxiety and tingling head and chills not had them before. Does feel like bit quite enough estrogen but uncomfortable urges have gone. Are chills the same as flushes with lack of estrogen? Hoping to get consultant tomorrow.

I had cold flushes with Tamoxifen which is an oestrogen suppressant - awful sensations, felt like I was getting 'flu  >:(

Seems you are swapping one lot of symptoms for others ……. it does take the body a while to settle but can be hard work getting there!

If you have a patch then you will get a more or less even dose all the time and not have to fiddle about. It's also a lot less dependent on getting the coverage right too, to ensure maximum absorption although I know many swear by gel! Three times a day seems rather inconvenient to me though!

I think your symptoms may also be due to your being plunged into menopause and as I said in my post below you will experience all sorts of symptoms until it settles.

I hope you feel better soon...
