I have had a few bouts of insomnia Vonnie and they are truly debilitating. The nights just seem so long and you lie there desperate for sleep that doesn't come. I remember once trying to describe the utter tiredness, I said I felt as if somebody had drawn a line round me like an old fashioned murder scene but there was nothing there. I was just the shape of the person I used to be. I find that amitriptyline is really good with helping me to sleep, I am on a fairly low dose 20mg per night but I do sleep well now. It might be worth trying?

Thanks for the posts.  The leg pain is still as bad, more pains in my back/shoulders as well -I did call into the chemist this afternoon to speak to the pharmacist-unfortunately he would not advise me as I do have other stomach issues-where I have to take medication every day-due to a very rare bowel condition, this was caused following my oophorectomy.  He did say there are numerous side affects with all tablets and everybody is different-as we all know, so will speak to gp on Tuesday.
Thanks for the post about the insomnia etc-this is certainly worth knowing and I will ask about this etc-it really is so difficult to explain how you feel when you are so exhausted.
Thanks again.

Well, gp visit went ok-felt he was better than previous gp.

Discussed the fluoxetine,-hot flushes, not sleeping, leg cramps etc -and he did say I could increase the fluoxetine to 60mg -from 40mg, alternatively try a sister drug, try  another medication (one which was used for blood pressure in the past), or try gabapentin (not sure on spelling-used to treat epilepsy), all known to aid hot flushes.

I have opted for the sister drug-which I will try start next week-when I have weened off the fluoxetine, my legs are incredibly painful -GP said was all menopause symptoms and did not think the pains were a side affect from the fluoxetine.

Anyway, got to se ehow I go on now-last night was awful in bed though -still awake at 2.30am, had no more than two hours-feel really exhausted.

He said from his experience he only knows one person who has had relief from herbal medications and therefore would not recommend anything specifically.

I have read loads of info which the GP printed off for me re herbal medicines etc-and I am surprised ho much of it cannot be taken if you have endometriosis -which is what I have-so not looking good on the herbal medicines etc-anybody else read anything or suffered from endometriosis and taken black cohash etc.

Started the new tablets -20mg of CITALOPRAM on Wednesday night-I slept for around six solid hours on Wednesday, last night was a disaster-went bed at 11.30pm and still awake at 4pm.  I was hopeful yesterday that the tablets would work -but fingers crossed for tonight now.
I have been reading a lot of literature from my GP re herbal remedies etc-and I am really surprised at the amount of remedies which state they cannot be taken if the patient has/had endometriosis -so I am really clutching at straws again.

If herbal remedies worked they would be available on the NHS  ;)

You will find that the AD will work on and off until your brain becomes used to it …….. 20mg is a starter dose but I found it too high for me, 5mg x daily was a good beginning

Thanks CLKD for your post, I have t agree with your comment about herbal remedies anyway.

I have look at my new tablets and they are only issued in 20mg, the fluoxetine were also 20mg and both GP's have said that they would start me on the lowest dose -being 20mg with the capacity to increase to 60mg -if need be with 20mg increments.  It does look like some other anti-depressants are in 5mg increments rather than 20mg-so will just have to see what happens -last nigh went bed at 11.30pm-still awake at 4.15am, then dosed off till 6.30and then got up-my back was killing me-so not in a good mood today as I feel so drained-back to work tomorrow-so a struggle is ahead of me.

Hi Vonnie, not sure if I have read your post correctly but citalopram does come in 10mg doses, I take that amount every morning and they are prescribed in packs of 28 tablets by my GP. If I've misunderstood just ignore me!!

Thanks for your post, I have just read the leaflet again with my tablets -CITALOPRAM-It states available in 20mg tablets, so unsure about this at the moment.  I believe what you have said -the only thing I can think of is that an alternative supplier makes them in different strengths -I am not sure.
As for sleeping-it is awful again, one night last week had about half an hour-this was in the chair when I finally got up-flushes, exhausted, constantly tired, not sleeping-and doing absolutely stupid things-noticed I am getting very clumsy.  Went to see family-and went up the wrong drive, went work and came out and went to the wrong car, spent two hours setting up a corded phone -which was even turned on at the mains-I think I have really lost the plot.

Hi Vonnie just wanted to send you a hug - fellow endo sufferer so have some understanding of some of your issues, in particular the sleeplessness - its SO debilitating.  Can't offer you any constructive advice as I'm still battling myself - just started on some HRT which doesn't seem to suit me too well - but early days.  So sorry to hear about your breast issues, I hope you get some answers soon  :bighug:

Not been on for a while, thought it was time for an update.

Still on the citalopram which is slightly helping the sleeping issues, but the legs are a serious issue at the moment.  Saw my GP on Friday and he told me the leg pain was from my back-but I have my doubts and think it is menopausal.

Have had back issues for a number of years but have recently got bye with my normal medication, the leg are very achy, heavy feeling and struggling to sit, lie and have not slept for four nights due to the fact they ache so much-and cannot get comfy.

They are not really pains-similar to aches and feel really heavy and hard to lift up.

Anybody else experience leg problems etc

Yes. My only way to describe my leg/arms aches is like having a bad virus without the sniffles, I have Bach problems (think my disc moved a bit last Monday, everything going into spasm and trapping sciatic nerve) but I get pain in my hip and knee too , I assumed it was meno related

I am in agony to say the least, the leg pains/aches are horrendous-so much so I cannot get comfy in bed as even the duvet feels heavy on me.  I am shattered and my legs feel like lead.

I have started magnesium -but still no improvement despite being on them over two weeks -can anybody else please make any suggestions.

What is it that causes it ? My bones are so painful , I have high levels of oestrogen and no progesterone and I presume very little testosterone

I dread how I'll be when I'm even older
