Recurring water infections
« on: September 28, 2014, 11:18:12 AM »

Well I'm suffering at the minute with my second water infection this month  :'(I have had several this year . Had tests cameras all sorts going to the docs again on Tuesday as they may put me on a low dose if anti-biotics long term . Be on vagifem for two months thought this may have helped . Have now starting taking cranberry tablets . Any one tried these or anything else getting bit fed up now with meno symptoms too x

HAve you had tests confirming it is a full UTI? Did they send the tests away for full analysis? Sometimes we get that burning sensation and it is not an infection - really horrid!!
You may need to up the amount of Vagifem you are using - many use it at least 3 times a week.
Cranberry is supposed to be helpful in recurring cystitis but if you have VA, with this horrid burning, anything acidic will actually make it worse.  Drinking lots of water is key to avoiding infection and keeping the vaginal flora acidic.  Using a vaginal gel like Hyalofemme of Multi Gyn Actigel used daily helps to keep things healthy.

Why wait?  Up the Vagifem this evening for a week.  See if it eases current symptoms.  That way you will have something to tell your GP.

Urine infections can only be diagnosed by sending off a sample to a Lab.! are you on ABs.  Cranberry - well the Jury is now out on how 'good' it is, the feeling is that anything that encourages good hydration is important.  So if you can bear the taste  ::)

If you pee is pale then it's too dilute which can cause irritation; 'normal' colour should be straw coloured.  The 1st one of the day will be quite dark.

Hi Pauline - I had similar to you and following a cystoscopy which showed all was ok I was put on a nightly dose of Cefalexin (sp). Following some googling I discovered that lack of oestrogen may have been to blame and my doc agreed to put me on vagifem and discontinued the antibiotics. In those days it was 25mcg and not 10mcg and this sorted the problem out for me for a couple of years. I then went onto full HRT so everything was fine bladder-wise. I am off HRT at the moment and have just had a hyster and bladder repair due to prolapse. I am using Vagifem again due to atrophy but the 10mcg dosage is not enough to keep everything comfy. I reckon that this is the same for you. Some women do use two instead of one pessary twice a week which does seem to help. Maybe you could ask you doc about this and you  may well find that you no longer need antibiotics.

You are on the correct Anti-Biotic.  I can't add any more to what Taz has suggested.
