Bramble - I'd say moderate exercise helps anxiety quite a lot. Classes might be the answer. I go to two where we undo all the good effort afterwards at the coffee shop, but it's fun and sociable.
Your local council gym might have over 55 membership at reduced rates as ours does. (don't know your age so excuse me if you're nowhere near that!).
Honeyb - can't tell you how much nicer it is swimming outdoors in the Lido than in the chlorine pit, indoor "leisure centre" pools. And you can change outside where I go, in a perspex lidded (warm!) change cubicle so no need for other people's hair on the floor (the showers at most pools are a horror story).
I hope you can find somewhere although in Scotland, I imagine it'd be indoor for sure! I'm hoping the Lido will stay open all year round. I plan to buy myself a cheap, bright pink dressing gown for poolside
