New & desperate
« on: June 24, 2014, 07:51:57 PM »

:'( Hi I am now 42 and have been peri since 38. Anxiety was that bad admitted myself to psychiatric ward for 3 months. Took a year to get bloods done that came back peri. Been on prempac c, premarin, patches but still had flushes on patches although these had the best results. Gynae said as still having flushes needed higher dose than 2mg. Been on 4mg Elleste solo for 6 weeks and anxiety has kicked off big style tried to get a hold of gynae but getting no reply.Have been bleeding for 3 years and getting heavier. I have had D&C biopsy and Marina fitted all privitly. Meds at the moment since hospital Amitryptyline 150mg, diazapam 8mg daily which has no effect on symptoms and zopiclone 1mg. Please does anyone knows if this level of 4mg may be too high and making anxiety worse? Tingling sensations are killing me.

Hi donnacrichton
What a tough time you are having. You are in the right place to get support.
There are lots of ladies who really suffer with anxiety and if you have an early menopause this can be difficult to manage.
You say you have a Mirena - is this still in place? Have you tried Oestrogel for the oestrogen part? Oestogel allows you to adjust the amount of oestrogen you dose each day - from 1-4 pumps per day and if you really need 4 pumps per day you can apply this 2 in the morning and 2 at night to ensure a steady dosage.  I have to say that 4mg seems awfully high!! I was peri meno from my mid 30s but never used more that 2 pumps of oestrogel per day. When I tried patches I need feel very strange as I felt I was over dosing to start with and getting very little oestrogen later on, however, many women get on with them well.  You see we are all different and it takes time to find the right HRT balance. Through the peri stage the hormones tend to fluctuate as well.
At 42 you need to have HRT to protect your heart and bones - at least until your early 50s but even beyond if needed.
There can be other reasons for flushes and sweats e.g.thyroid function? Have you been tested for this?
A colleague of mine at work was taking HRT and still getting flushes and anxiety and she has now been given one of the ADs that help with meno symptoms and she is feeling so much better.  Look under Prescribable non-HRT under the green font headings to the left of this screen - perhaps print this out and show this to the GP who may be able to replace one or more of your current ADs for one of these which may help better?
Here is the link:    http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/prescribed.php
It's good to read up all the info under all the heading to the left of this screen to get fully clued up.
Dr. Currie who created this site has recently bought out a book which could be useful.
Hopefully others will be along soon with help and advice.
Keep us posted.

I am baffled as to why you have been bleeding! You said you have been bleeding for 3 years?  Is this continuously or are you having monthly bleeds?
Usually the Mirena settles the heavy bleeding down and 4 years into peri meno your own oestrogen levels should have dropped and the Mirena could have stopped the bleeding altogether.
I personally think you are on too high dose - too much oestrogen would make you bleed more. Perhaps cut the patch in half when you next change it and see how you feel - in other words reduce your hormone dose for half a week so you can gage how this effects you.
As I said before perhaps you need to reassess the ADs you are taking to help with the anxiety and flushes.
Do you have a good GP who can have a look at the ADs you are taking - it sounds as though you need an holistic approach to help you get the right balance of HRT and ADs.
Why not print out this and show it to your GP to discuss:

Also ask to try Oestrogel so you can experiment with the amount of oestrogen you use to find the best dose. Hopefully others who use ADs will be along soon with advice.

I am on amitriptyline for pain only 15mg a night, I don't know how you can tolerate that amount, as I know from my research that people get your symptoms that are on it at that high a dose, it is a very old fashioned Antid used more for nerve pain these days at a much lower dose. I would imagine one of the reasons you are on it is because it is as cheap as chips.

Do some research on anti ds, they all have side effects, but would some of the more modern ones be better? You will have to wean yourself VERY slowly off of the ami.

Anxiety is the pits :( I go to CBT and accunpucture, my anxiety is caused through pain, and anxiety makes any condition worse, so we need to try and find ways of relaxing, and theres nothing better for me than sitting in the middle of the woods with the birds tweeting and my two dogs next to me.  :)

Been bleeding since 2011 sometimes heavier than others. Have been told to reduce estrogen to 3mg. On amitrityline as they thought tingling might be a nerve pain obviously before blood tests. Appreciate any input anyone has been fighting this alone long enough and thankful fie the support here x

Hi

I had a mirena fitted inJan 2014, (second one) and I also take 2mgs of Oestrogen, seems just enough. I do also take and AD Citralopam 30mgs daily.

I plan to reduce to 1mg of Oestrogen to help with my appetite
