Trouser shopping

Yes, I know I've moaned about this before. But really M&S nearly drove me to drink today. Went in to find sale bargains, none to be had that suited me.  My needs weren't great, just nice fitting pair of white linen trousers. Didn't want baggy, didn't want cropped, of which there are copious amounts. Ah peg leg, sounded fine. Well had to try on several pairs of 14s & 16s. 16s varied in length & width. So went back for 14s & tried them on. By this time I'd lost the will to live. However, eventually found ones which fitted in a 14 which pleased me no end after quite a time going back & forth to changing room. Phew.

Then it was trouser shopping for hubby as he's lost weight & trousers getting too big. First ordered smaller sized trousers for his yet unworn suit. Then picked up 3 pairs of casual trousers for him. Bought, took them home. Guess what only one pair fit! All the same size & style. So will have to go back for refund/exchange.

Good grief how hard is it to get stuff to fit without all this rigmarole?  :-\ :-\ :-\

I could go on about this for ever!!!. I hate M&S these days - their sizing and cut is soooo variable - it's no wonder their sales are down this year.
I agree NEXT is far better.
I try to avoid sale time  if I can  - if a thing is in the sale it's because nobody wanted it in the first place.  I have worked in retail quite a bit and always felt really annoyed when people looked at an item that was new stock and then said " Oh, I'll get that when it's in the sale".  I'm afraid I used to delight in telling them we were sold out when they came back and complained that that item wasn't in the sale.
Having said that, I occasionally pick up a bargain in the higher end ranges.  I did get a fabulous knitted jacket in a smart tailored shape from Jigsaw last week - i can't usually afford their stuff but this will be a really useful item come the autumn.
I personally find trousers a nightmare to buy. I often resort to buying those ghastly  trousers with elasticated waist as I'm rather hour glass (in other words 'big hipped') - most trousers that fit me over the hips are gaping around my waist!!!!
My feet are size 2 and a half - don't get me started on that one!!!!!
If one more person says "aren't you lucky, you can buy children's shoes" I think I will  crown them!

Don't start me on buying shoes! I have size 7 1/2 AAs. There are very few shops that sell narrow shoes in the UK. Normally, I buy online. I have to pay extortionate amounts of money for shoes. I can't but wellies. My iPad has just suggested willies for wellies!  :o. Can't buy those either!

I have to agree Next are better, but didn't have style I was looking for this time round. M&S needs to a) update their ideas & b) sort out sizing. What fits one year, doesn't the next.

Shoes used to be a nightmare for me too, size 4! Could never find styles I liked. Now size 5 & it's slightly easier.

CG - I have used Orvis.co.uk for denim skirts and non iron blouses for years,
I have also had some smashing lighter skirts from them, they are really good about handling and processing returns. They use american sizes which sound so much better than ours  ::). I did notice they do have some linen trousers.......   :whist:

Thanks Limpy, though doubt I could justify spending so much. I do like their stuff though.

Next for me. I know the size and the cut that I like so I go fishing on eBay. It's amazing how many new pairs with tags that are for sale at a fraction of the full price.
I have got some real bargains and I love a bargain.

I have problems with shoes too. One foot is a 2/12 and the other is a three. I need to meet someone who has the same problem only with opposite feet  ;D

Try Michele trousers, not cheap but if you can get them in the sales they are usually almost half price.  They are german and come with big comfy waists and slim thighs or just about any combination. Last for years too with careful laundering. You will find them on line in lots of on line catalogues

 ;D A bargain CLKD!

I went into a shop called choice the other day.
They sell returned stock from next,M & S etc,etc.
I bought a pair of black linen trousers in my size.....Next price £22 down to £11 then reduced again to £5.50.
They were a little too long but hey oh I worked my magic with the wund web and turned them up.
Perfect!

Choice - will have to keep an eye out .......... occasionally I come across catalogue returns shops but they don't seem to remain long on the high street and always in a town we are visiting  ::)

Trousers washed and on the line ...........  :bounce:
