Hair appts
« on: May 07, 2014, 08:32:05 AM »

When I made the appt last week I wasn't told of the various charges and couldn't see a list of prices.  I hadn't been to this particular 'salon' for over 10 years: the 1st time I went the girl drowned me! I was wet to below my waist and had to drive home to change every item of clothing.  I went back twice after that but the girl got complacent …….. too busy talking and not enough care over the cutting!

We had a home bod here for years.  Paying him directly and he always did a good job, the 1 time he didn't I had him back for a 2nd trim for which he didn't charge.  Again we were chatting and he wasn't concentrating  ::)

I've been going to a salon in town intermittently for 2 years, there are 5/6 in our town and 8 in the region.  They haven't done a particularly good cut the last couple of times  :-\ but that was £20.00 - cut wash and blow dry because I am 60.

SO £40.00 is still a SHOCK! when I looked at the various web-sites it seems that nowadays one pays a staggered amount dependant upon the level of training the staff have had.  But this wasn't explained, nor was it explained if there would be a different cost - the girl who was supposed to do me yesterday had rung 'in sick' ……….  :-\ ………..  also I had a recorded message 45 mins after getting home ……….. asking me whether "I LOVE my hair …… "  >:(

Also - what is a 'finish'?  :-\ They have no reduction for OAPs either.  ……….. I will be wiser next time. At a different salon I will ask for an appt. and see if I am offered a list of prices and explanation!

I know certain salons charge differently depending on the training/superiority of the stylist but if they changed it due to staff sickness then they should foot that part of the bill - you should pay what you ordered, not what they gave you!

I agree, not your problem if your stylist was off sick. Although they'd probably argue the point. As for phone call asking if you liked your look? That's a bit strange, they should ask before you leave the salon.

I think I will write a general letter to the MD of this franchise.  Certainly the final straw was the pre-recorded phone call asking if I LOVED my hair  :-\  :-X

So I have just written a long rambling post and then deleted it ! (In error)

CLKD. - complain, we all put up with too much, especially as hairdressing is supposed to be a service industry

I remember the time I decided (I was 18) to colour my hair myself.... I wanted to go RED.  I am naturally fair ::)

It was a wash in wash out treatment, 6 washes it should have lasted, well 6 MONTHS later it was still like a red setter. I matched my then boyfriends dog...how embarrassing. He didn't know which one of us to stroke and feed doggy chocs to and which one to take out to dinner.   I have a feint memory of getting the doggy chocs....none the wonder it didn't last...

I had wondered about going to a student ……… it should have been pointed out that there is a scale of charges dependant on ……….. a hair cut is a hair cut  >:(

I'd always promised myself a Vidal Sassoon haircut at one of his salons. So about 16 or so years ago, whilst between old hairdresser & current one I spent £40+ on haircut in Glasgow salon. Waste of bloomin  money! I chose a second from bottom of the scale stylist as others were well out my price range. So was £40+ but thought I'd treat myself. Style was hopeless to maintain. Gorgeous on the day, but useless practically.

I cut my own hair, years ago I got a book out of the library teaching you how to cut your own hair, the last time I went to a hairdresser was in

2000 when I had my long hair cut short.

Got my hair cut last week for £22.00.  Good cut too, at least thus far.  Will probably return …….

That's good. I'm getting the chop a week on Saturday. I've been so close to chopping it myself. Back to pixie style. Easy to keep & it suits me. I pay £35. That's pretty cheap here for a decent haircut, probably as it's a one man business.
