So sorry to hear about your cat - it must have been a real shock. But at least it was quick. Pets just worm their way into your heart and you don't realise how big a part they take up until they are gone. Take care.

So sorry to hear about your cat Spadger. I would feel exactly the same as you if one of mine got killed. What a shock for you but I'm really pleased that you found him. So many cats are hit on the roads and carry on running into the nearest cover never to be found or some well meaning person takes them home for burial. Although you have lost him you know that he is not shut in somewhere or lying injured. It may sound a strange thing to say but I'm sure you will understand what I mean.

Thank you so much for your kindness and comments, I have just lit a candle and raised a glass of wine in memory of our dear, sweet, lovely cat. Taz2 I understand what you mean and you're right, I'm so glad I got him home and we buried him in our garden. No wondering and hoping, I know exactly where he is and will plant a shrub in his honour and memory.  His brother is beside me, looking slightly lost but getting "twice the love"! I appreciate you all taking the time to respond, and to those who know from experience exactly how I feel - I am sorry for your loss also.

I have a corner of the garden never to be cultivated as it's under a tree: 3 rabbits and 3 cats there …… with various statue thingies close by including an angel with a shell for water.

I was there pruning on Tuesday muttering, "sorry to disturb you pussies" as I tramped all over  ………. I know their Spriits are running free though

Sorry to hear about your dear little puss Spadger - it is always so sad to lose them under any circumstances.

CLKD - thank you for that, he is now buried in the garden along with two other kitties we lost a few years ago, and will plant something for him soon, I hate to think how I will feel if we ever move house... Thank you Hurdity, it really helps to know that people care and understand.

I will be sad when we move.  But their Spirits are at Rainbow Bridge.  I saw 2 of ours after ……. so I know they are OK  .  I will leave a note for the new owners pointing out why there's a quiet corner …….

So very sorry to hear about your cat. The exact same thing happened to my gorgeous cat last November so I absolutely know how you feel. He was my constant companion, rarely away from my side and I felt like I'd lost a part of me. It does get easier over time of course but they never leave you in spirit. As Taz said, it is some comfort to know what has happened and, like you, our cat is buried in our garden which he loved.

So sorry about your lovely cat and how sad that you came across him like that on your way to work. I also blubbed all day in a large office when I had to have my cat put to sleep 4 years ago. No one dare speak to me.

I'm overwhelmed by the lovely comments and kindness you have all shown, it's really helped. I'm still quite sensitive and it feels so sad today to be sitting in the garden without him - but his brother (our only pet now) is here - albeit a bit bewildered.  Friends and neighbours who have heard the news are being very kind, and in some ways it does restore your faith in humanity.
