Bladder pain......advice?
« on: June 10, 2014, 02:30:23 PM »

My bladder has often felt bruised and irritated during or after IBS problems. This didn't worry me as it is common problem. However, the pain has been quite severe at times this last week although IBS has not been too bad. I was unable to sleep much last night. I started kliovance 1mg (estradiol/norethisterone) a week ago. Could this be a side effect that may settle, or should I be concerned. Thank you for any advice.

If it ain't one thing it's another  - I would ring a Pharamacist and ask  :-\ ..... could be hormonal or could you have bumped yourself? Are you peeing more often .......... drink plenty anyway.

Not sure what's causing it but I have been taking Buscopan for my IBS. I was reading online about its uses and it can be used to relieve bladder spasms.
Don't know whether you would get some relief if you gave it a go.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks I'm not peeing more than normal, well a bit more as I have been trying to drink more! One sign of low libido is the absence of erotic dreams. Well had one when I was in pain, though erotic is not the right description, more a nightmare. I'll have to stop reading crime thrillers!

I could try Buscopan, though I'm not experiencing spasms, rather constant discomfort. I haven't bumped myself. If it goes on too long I suppose I had better see the doctor. Walking seems to help.

Sorry to hear what your going through Ju Ju Bladder problems can drive you crazy. Is there any chance you might have a fibroid pushing on that area? I went through several years having the feeling i need to go but then nothing. It felt like a heavy sensation almost like your going to get an infection but finally when i had my hysterectomy it all went away and I did indeed have three fairly large fibroids.

I don't know, Annika. It hasn't been quite so bad, though it disturbed my sleep last night. I think I shall see how things go. I really don't want to see the doctor, as I spent so much time going backwards and forwards to the surgery and hospital earlier this year. Thank you for your concern.

Do you take any B vitamins by any chance?  I used to take complete B50 with no problem but tried them again a few months ago and had awful bladder pain, could stopped them and the pain went away.

Hi Cheekygal! Love the name! No, I don't take Vit B supplements. The only vit I take is D3. Tried to take a general good quality vit and min supplement recently, but it gave me the 'runs'.

I am having a really rough time with everything down there since Christmas. To cut a very long story short, my anterior wall and tip of my urethra has been very painful for a very long time, I have just been for a second opinion and the specialist said that most pelvic pain starts off in the bladder, but is usually overlooked by the specialists. ( I am not talking about VA here ).  :(

I am not saying you have this at all but may be of interest, as IBS also is known to cause bladder issues especially if we have had it years. The first thing he did was scan my bladder it is double the thickness it should be,and I also have e-coli. I will at sometime have to have a Cystoscopy but the infection needs to be got on top of first.

My problems originally started 20 months ago after having polyps removed from my womb, my pee samples where always clear, it was only my urethra hurting. Vagifem has made no difference. All the various people I have seen said that it was coincidence, this consultant and he is top of his field immediately said that's where it started, as they would have put a catheter in.

Now it is going to be like peeling back the layers to see what long term damage has been done, as it has set all the nerves off down there. I have not had the symptoms of an actual infection, just the painful anterior wall and urethra tip, which has put my pelvic floor into spasm. The dip stick at the GPs was clear and the hospital, but I had lots of white bits in my pee which unless coming from the vagina which mine was not, should not be in our pee.

So I am for the first time in 25-30 years going on antibiotics nutrofortin (sp), I have never had a pee infection or thrush. So this is going to be interesting.

So all I am saying is if the anterior wall feels odd, that is not normal and there is a high chance it is coming from the bladder.

I am having intensive pelvic floor physio, to try and relax the pelvic floor, and if you suspect anything wrong down there do not do pelvic floor exercise, as that is what finished me off, as I was tightening an already tightened pelvic floor that has now gone into spasm.  :'(

Dear Maryjane,

You have had a rough time. I don't think my problem is anywhere as severe as yours. I have had IBS since I was 14 and  have noticed bladder discomfort when things were bad, but would settle down as I recovered from the IBS episode. Things have been worse this last week, since starting progesterone, so it is tempting to put 2 and 2 together and make 5. If it continues I will seek medical advice.

Let us know how you are. It's easier to discuss these things here than with family and friends.

Hi Maryjane, I have not posted on here for a while but your post made me want to reply to you. I have had bladder problems since 2008 which got steadily worse. I had all kinds of tests done and I also suffer from back nerve pain. I got so sick of it all that I went to see a top specialist (waited 4mts for app) and she told me straight away that the thickness of my bladder was due to my weeing so often, I have vulvodynia, painful bladder syndrome (IC) and apart from diet and tablets, which I can't take, there is really nothing they can do. I really didn't want to accept this news but it makes sense. I haven't got VA as my gyn/ob keeps telling me but I have to accept that it is nerve pain. There is a particular spot on my labia which, when touched, hurts like mad which is vulvodynia. I asked about the itchy feeling I have 'inside' and outside and that again is vulvodynia. I thought the painful bladder was VA but it's IC. I felt like hiding under a rock for ages as there isn't much I can do but it's something I have to live with. Hope you get better news than me but don't give up until you know that sometimes you've got to accept what the doctor says. Love Rose x

Hi Rose. Thank you for replying. It's all so odd as my actual bladder doesn't hurt persay, I don't have urgency, dribbling etc can hold a good amount. Since being on the antibs in the last 48 hours the PGAD side of it has stopped I prey it stays that way.

Botox may be a consideration down the line but I will need to investigate further. Nerve damage really is the pits.

.......and it is such a delicate area. :(

So sorry to hear about your problems.  About a year and half ago started the menopause and also started getting horrific bladder problems.  Terrible pain when peeing and as if I had been kicked in bladder.  First of all told I had cyctitis antibiotics calmed it down but when off started up again.  The pain in my bladder and lower stomach was unbearable.  Eventually tests came back and I didnt have cycstitis.  Antibiotics are also ant inflammatory and thats why they worked.  I was told the problem wascdue to changes in the lining of the bladder caused by the menopause. Was in horrible pain and eventually doctor gave me instillagel.  It is a gel used in hospitals to kill pain so they can insert catheters.  I wiped it over the whole area and the relief was immediate.  I have never looked back.  My bladder has now calmed down a lot but in case of flare ups wouldnt bw without it

oleva:

Are you saying that you regularly use a local anesthetic on your vulvar tissues and all the bladder/urethral pain goes away?....Or that you only use it for flare-ups? but the rest of the time don't need to use anything?  Are you on vaginal estrogen or systemic HRT at all?

How often do you actually need to use the instillgel?
