Krill oil supposedly has no pollutants, as soon as our EyeQ is finished will send for some. Upped our Vit D3 to  2000 mg s instead of 1000g and really feel the benefits.

I've been and bought some since reading these posts. I know that makes sense. Primrose oil, cod liver oil. Remember older ladies in my past taking these. Primrose oil in particular. Libby

Reading your advice ladies, since joining this site, I've bought cod liver oil, kalms night and yesterday ( was reduced to £9.99  from £19.99). Red clover. Seems to have good reviews. Certainly for basic meno symptoms. What is your views. Libbyloo.

libbyloo - I never found that herbs and remedies for meno symptoms worked for me - I tried everything but many ladies do find they are helpful.  I think it is trial and error but if your flushes and night sweats are bad then I feel the only answer is HRT. Nytol Herbal has hops in it and hops are a relaxant and supposed to help with hormones was well - if you are having trouble sleeping this might be worth a try.  Boots do their own version of Nytol Herbal and it's cheaper. I'm afraid I take the normal Nytol (that has antihistamine in it to make you sleepy) quite bit to help me sleep DG x

Maybe we should all be eating more oily fish?

dulciana - you are absolutely right - oily fish is the right thing to eat - however I am vegetarian and oily fish is the last thing I feel I could eat. Omega 3 is particularly important so I take capsules - I think it is important to take fish oils that have been dealt with in a way that takes out any pollutants, as I know there can be an issue with cheaper cod liver oil capsules.  DG x

Hi DG,

I would like to thank you for starting this post.  Since first reading it, I have started to take Healthspan 1000mg Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules.  It may be coincedence but I have had very little anxiety and am really starting to feel like my old self again.

I have been on HRT and Starflower Oil for 12 months now and got rid of all my symptoms except for anxiety.  I have my fingers crossed that this is helping.  If not, I am sure that my body will be healthier for taking them.  Thanks again xx

I'm at that early stage, where you read lots, buy random things, unsure yet(too early) what's doing what. I'm on kalms nights dancinggirl. But yesterday took a red clover for first time. Decided not to mix things last night. Didn't take kalms, had awful night. Just had a rare two hr nap to make up for it, was a normal nap. Got cod liver oil, kalms, take statins (no choice) introduced red clover. Who takes red clover? Intrigued to hear your views. I'll go down hrt route if and when I need to. Symptoms very bearable at present. Libby

I think it is very difficult to really know what is helping and what isn't. I spent so much money on all sorts of remedies that did nothing for my flushes, night sweats etc.
I'm now 58 and have recently come off full HRT again and have found the meno symptoms are far less than I experienced 5 years ago. All I'm trying to do is use supplements that support the areas that suffer from the lack of oestrogen e.g. bones and heart. I am actually very sceptical about the so called" Natural Way" as many herbal remedies can have quite toxic effects so should be used with caution.
HRT is often a combination of hormones that are natural to our bodies - HRT is not really a drug but a supplement that has to be taken with caution and helps to prevent menopause symptoms and the long term damage from the lack of oestrogen.  Others would argue with this and say we are interfering with a natural process of life, however, we must remember that it's not so long ago that we would have been lucky to live beyond 50!!!
We all experience the menopause differently and if the meno symptoms are not too bad then a few supplements to support bones and heart are a good idea. If the symptoms are effecting your life badly then HRT is a good option to try.  DG x
