Peri-menopause symptoms and energy bills
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:29:45 PM »

Hi

Hot flushes and sweats are part of my symptoms.
My energy company recently emailed me with their three-monthly request for me to read my meter and submit my readings, so it could generate my new bill for the winter period.

This last three months, I have only used £75.00 more in fuel than I used in the pervious quarter when I hardly had any heating on, and my windows are not even double glazed.

Has perimeno or meno symptoms of overheating had such a strong impact on your energy bills?

No I haven't changed how much heat is in the house because between hot sweats I am a normal temperature so I would be forever turning the thermostat up and down.

My bills go down when other family members go away for a while and are not forever in the shower or gaming on their computers ;D

Interesting, never really paid attention to it. Like Taz, our usage would at least double with family around. Now hubby, is different kettle of fish. He overheats more than me. I'll  be just nice & cosy, hubby will switch down thermostat because he's having a flush  ;D Then I will be cold as a result. Drives me insane.  ;D

I have not noticed any difference to be honest.
It's the kids that cost a fortune. My daughter has the longest showers and my son has two computers running constantly. Now he has started work hopefully my bills will go down a bit  ;D

Hi

I think it's because I live alone.
I have to economise because due to losing my job through ill health unfortunately, I am on benefits.
I put the heating on for about half an hour some mornings if it's very cold, but mainly I just use a 500W electric heater, and even then, sometimes I have to turn it off.

My son takes really long showers every day and also has 2 computers running! I rang the Consumption Queries line recently as I was concerned about how much electricity we use compared to other similar homes and colleagues at work. After going through lots of questions about what we had running in the home, I asked the man what was the single most money saving thing I could do:

he said "Kick out your son" :)  He did stress immediately that he was only joking.

I seem to be hot when everyone else is cold, and cold when everyone else is hot!

If I could be level heat wise with hubby, we'd be rich!   ;D

Our thermostat is set at around 21.5,  but off from 9pm to 6am.  It does get a tad cold up here.  ;)

Now there's a thought ariadne  ;D

We had one of those meter thingies that showed how much electricity you were using at any given time. It went wild when the tumble dryer was on and the hairdryer. I had always accused my son of wasting energy with all his bits of kit running and never being turned off just going to standby.
He was determined that I was wrong and to prove it we turned everything off in the house and then turned them all back on one by one. I used far more with the hairdryer and his equipment barely made the meter rise at all.
I drove hubby nuts by continually looking at the meter and complaining. He discontented it and put it in the bin. When we moved to our new house we were sent another one. It never even came out of the box as he was not prepared for me to obsess again.

So maybe it's not our kids ;D.  Might let him stay after all.

Everything has a good side and a not-so-good side.

What I save in energy bills I make up for in water bills as I am on a meter and used loads on showers, washing clothes, bedding bla bhah!
