I wonder if anyone can answer my question regarding hrt elleste duet contin hrt. I have been on this for 2 month and have 2nd heavy period. Is this normal. I have not had period like this for years because i had the marina coil in for 5 years and took eastradol hrt. For symptoms of the menopause. I had to get the marina out and decided not to get another because i thought i was passed menopause. So for 3 months i went cold turkey. Nightmare! The doctor put me on this and said the bleeding should stop. But its horrible  :(feeling terrible with cramps. I don't know what to do. Also breast tenderness when on the green tablets to period is bad. However all other symptoms of the menopause has been rectified apart from small weight changes. What to do? Will the bleeding settle down? Be grateful for any input thanksj

Hello I was wandering if anyone can tell me if it is normal to have a monthly bleed when on this hrt? Because I've been on this for 2 months now had no periods before but feel the clock has went back to five years ago! I had the marina coil removed and stopped eastrogen only hrt. That I had been taken for 3 years. Went cold turkey. And all my symptoms came back was a full. The doctor gave me this to try and all is doing well apart from heavy painful period which I thought would be a thing of the past. I don't know if this is not good? Any thoughts?

I'm a bit confused at the moment.

Are you on Elleste duet conti? These tablets are all the same and not supposed to give a bleed. However some women do bleed initally on conti HRT - and this may be the case with you, especially after you had a gap ( I think that's what you said) after stopping the Mirena and the estradiol?

I was wondering how old you are? If you are not post-meno yet then bleeding is likely on conti HRT because your own cycle will break through. Periods often stop on Mirena because the progestogen thins the womb lining directly.

If you have different colour tablets then you are not on the conti type - so I'm guessing the doc put you on these because you didn't like the heavy periods on the ordinary cyclical Elleste Duet?

If this is causing problems and the Mirena suited you - why not get another one put in and then you can continue with the estrogen only tablets alongside.

hurdity found the message yes i am taking elleste duet that have the blue tablets and the white tablets! i thought i was past the meno I am 51 and started meno about 3 years ago. but got marina in for very heavy irregular periods 2 years before. Then came flushings and the whole lot i was totally miserable. The doctor gave me the estrogen only which was great along with the marina. Anyway 5 years on i had to get it removed and thought maybe i am past meno?? However all symptoms came back. I felt my life was not mine any longer. However no period then the doctor gave me this and said i shouldn't bleed. But i have. Then she said it would settle down. i don't know what to do?? i am confused! I thought about getting marina in but because i had no period i thought whats the point. Do you think i am on the right hrt? i am just not sure. iv looked up on it and i still am not sure. I am going back to the doctor Thursday any suggestions? or advice thanks

If your doctor has given you Elleste Duet with two different tablets (each type taken for 14 days) then this is designed to give a monthly bleed.

However if you are given a no-bleed HRT - ie Elleste Duet Conti - as I mentioned below, you may still get a bleed until your body adjusts. You could go back to your doctor and ask for these - but as I said you may get side effects from the continuous progestogen

If your periods stopped while on the Mirena (which they tend to eventually from what I've read) then why not ask for a replacement and then you can just carry on as before, with the oestrogen to deal with menopausal symptoms for as long as you want them. Don't be fobbed off if that's what you want!

Unfortunately for some women menopausal symptoms (such as flushes and sweats) continue until they are well post-meno and "through" the menopause ( ie natural periods finished) so HRT continues to be required. Also stopping suddenly can cause a dramatic resurgence of symptoms for some women and gradual withdrawal is recommended.

If you are only 51 you are only just at the natural average age of menopause so you could easily take HRT for another 10 years and the benefits generally are greater than the risks. See menu to left:

thank you for your advice i will mention to my doctor about the tablets being continues or not she said that it was continues, but maybe shes gave me the wrong ones! i will mention this to her on Thursday and see what she says. and get back to the forum in case anyone out there has the same problem, Can i ask one more thing?? not really that important but important for me, i feel my waistline getting thicker, and have gained a few pounds since starting hrt but eating less. Apart from my pig out holiday (for 2 weeks) is this a common problem with hrt. if so does that settle down too.?
