I saw the show many years ago in Manchester, it was great but you can't beat the film.  I like many of the ones that have been mentioned in this thread already + ' Oh brother where art thou' with George Clooney, it's excellent x

Goodness, really Hasty?? - you simply must see it.   It's an absolutely wonderful film with a very powerful, true human  story, not to mention the memorable songs that are still on everybody's lips half a century later.   :)

...............and Christopher Plummer!   :-*   :-*

I have watched The Go Between countless times and never tire of it. It was filmed locally in the 1970s and I knew a lot of the extras in the film.  That summer My friend and I got a summer job working as chambermaids in the hotel where many of the actors stayed.  Julie Christie, Alan Bates, Terence Stamp - great cast.

I don't know if anybody remembers the series When The Boat Comes In.  They have been repeating it on the Drama Channel and it is just as good second time around. That was also 1970s.
