Hi all.

I posted a few weeks ago as I've been advised to start 300mg utrogestan from days 14 - 28 to help reduce heavy bleeding. I'm 51, peri and am on 4 pumps oestrogel.

During my first cycle of this (last month) I took 300mg orally. My period was spread over a week, spotting at beginning stopping and starting and at end but 2 heavy days in middle including flooding that went everywhere!  :o

I am now 2 days into my second cycle and am trying it vaginally. Both nights after insertion resulted in night sweats and anxiety through the night. I am feeling teary and angry also  :(. I've read that there are supposedly fewer side effects taking it vaginally but seems to have had opposite effect for me.

What to do? Reduce to 200mg vaginally? Go back to 300mg orally? Persevere with 300 vaginally?? Am also thinking could I try 100mg every day with three day break?

Any advice greatly appreciated x

Hi,
I've just started (2 nights ago) to try my 100mg daily utrogestan vaginally, to see if it makes any difference, as was having abdominal issues taking it orally??

In the mornings I have woken up with a slimy kind of feeling all around the outside down there (sorry if TMI?!).

Is this normal? - and how do I know the stuff is getting to go where it needs to? So far no other sides effects, fingers crossed.

Can you alternate with vaginal and oral use, or is it better to stick with just one route? Is is ok to use at same time as Vagifem?

Oh the confusion Jane50, its a real pain! Hope you get sorted x
Thanks

Didn’t know where to ask this question so hope ok on here!
I had a blood test in January when on 4 pumps gel and it was 162pmol/ml didn’t feel great but had better days than now! I then tried Everol 50 after reducing to 2 pumps of gel and after 2 weeks had a blood test result of 127pg/ml! So there were measured differently and now I have come off the patch due to heightened anxiety and palpitations And have gone back to 4 pumps! I have lots of nausea and anxious stomach feeing with low mood! 2 questions I am peri menopause with normal regular periods which of the 2 results Shkuld I feel better on and should I increase the gel now as when on 4 didn’t seem to be absorbing it very well! I’ve tried different HRT over the last 13 months and still can’t get it right. I seem to waste 3 months seeing if it helps( except the Everol which I couldn’t tolerate) any suggestions welcomed

Hi, found this thread and am hoping someone has any ideas about why my period is coming in the middle of the progesterone rather than at the end as it’s suggested?
Thanks in advance

Hi Smatt

It depends where you are in menopause. If you are peri-menopausal especially in early peri - with natural periods still coming fairly frequently before you started HRT, depending how long you've been taking it, then your natural cycle could still be breaking through. Normally HRT does not suppress the cycle especially with low to medium doses of oestrogen. Also if the lining is a bit thickened it can also lead to early bleeding. If it continues like this over the next few months then you could tweak the regime so the bleeding coincides with the withdrawal of the progesterone, although with erratic cycles this may only work a couple of times! As you get further towards menopause with fewer ovulations, then the bleeds should become more predictable and tie in with the progesterone part of the cycle more often.

Thanks so much for getting back! Your reply has shed more light than trawling thorough the internet For weeks!
I’ve been peri for 10 years...periods getting heavier, more erratic and other side effects like itching skin, forgetfulness and explosive temper led to doc suggesting hrt. Been in that for 6 months now.
All was going well until Last period lasted 22 days...

Hi, I've just joined so new to this group.

I'm peri and have been for about a year. I've just started Utrogestan 200mg orally at night which I'm to take day 1 -12 and Oestrogel one pump twice a day.

I've not been sleeping due to flushes which is one reason for HRT and the other is libido, which is non existent.

I took my first capsules last nite and slept the whole night without even stirring. I feel hung over this morning. Anyone else experience this or am I just exhausted.
How about libido, does it return?

Lastly, I'm sure my gp said to apply the gel to my hip area which isn't what the directions say. Where do others apply it?
Thank you in advance.

I have been trying different HRT since June 2019 and as posted a few times before can’t get it right! I’m now on 6 pumps of gel and feel worse! I have been advised by my specialist to increase to 8 pumps within the week as I don’t absorb well. She has also advised to start taking Utrogestron continuously for a no bleed routine . I am concerned about doing this as my periods were regular when I started HRT! Also I take it vaginally due to side effects of it orally. I 100% can’t do vaginally every day! My bloods were low so she said we need to get them nearer to 500- they were 127! She also advised waiting to Sandrena when I had used all my gel! Any advice welcomed to the following- should I increase to 8 pumps and does continuous Utrogestron sound right.

Flan747, have you tried Estradot patches? I didn't absorb well with Oestrogel, and not much better on Sandrena, but seem to do much better on Estradot.

I tried Everol patches but only used them for 2 weeks as symptoms became worse but actually no better on the gel. I was on 4 pumps beginning of the year but changed to patches as although felt a bit better I was no where near where I wanted to be. No idea what to do. My specialist is adament I should increase the gel.

hi,

i am so confused

i am just starting on estrogel 0.06%, one application each day.

utrogestan 100mg capules take once a day.

unfortunately my brilliant gp, didnt explain things really. on the sheet in the box it says take on days 15-26 of cycle.

well, i dont have a cycle as havent had a period for about 10 years and then suddenly 6 months ago my hot flushes went mad, dr did blood test and said my fsh levels were very high.

and put me on hrt

so i really don;t know if i stop taking it on day 26 or do the continuous method because she didn;t tell me.

any one know?

i am currently on day 4 of taking them, so some help would be nice.

thanks in advance

Hi fibrosandie
Yes you take the Utrogestan every day. Taking it on days 15-26 is for ladies who are still having periods . X

Hi Pink

Depends how often your perids are. if they are still coming  every few weeks or so even though longer than 28 days then you can start the oestrogel on the first day of the bleed (Day 1) then start counting and take the utrogestan (200 mg daily) on days 15-26 and so on. From then onwards you just keep on with the 28 day cycle. If your periods are few and far between then just start any time and count the first day of the oestrogel as Day 1 and take it from there. If it turns out that you are way out of sync with your natural cycle then you can tweak the timing a bit. In this case  (very infrequent periods) some women actually take the utrogestan part monthly ie starting it on the same day each calendar month (eg 1st -12th) - because their own cycle may well not occur that often.
