I too wanted to say something
« on: October 13, 2013, 08:12:53 PM »

 >:(

Yesterday DH, Mum and I went to Church.  It was where we married in 1975.  The Church was having an open day in order to encourage more people to attend, visit or generally take an interest in the building.  There was a guided talk by an architect which was full of historical interest, tea and coffee: we spoke to a guy I hadn't seen since we married and left the village - someone we were in school with.

However: as we wandered around the Church we heard someone put a donation into the glass jar - a man standing by turned to the woman and told her "We prefer notes as they don't make such a noise.  We like our Church quiet" ............. I told the woman 'at least others know that you have put in a donation' and she went back to the man to tell him my words.

Now - never having been a religious person I could have thumped the man making such a comment.  It was a day to encourage people to visit the Church  :-\   ???  :-X

I will writing the same to the magazine of that partciular village !!!!! as DH said after, the lady could have dropped 10 x £2.00 pieces into the jar!

Bit of a cheek. Should be thankful she made a donation. If they want quiet donations, find some quieter receptacle. Something quilted maybe.

I think I would have hit him!     She might not have been able to afford 'a note'.    If he had said that to my OH he would have asked for it back.

A whiff of sanctimonious clap track from a man, I think.

More notes more money ???

He should have been grateful to get anything at all. People are hard up these days. Bet she will not give to that church again.

Just wondering why you got married in a church if you are not religious CLKD?

I'm not religious either by the way! ;)

He didn't seem to be joking  >:(

We were married in Church because my family wanted me wed.  No Reg. Office for me.  White, lots of flowers, about 80 people there.  We were happy to live together and get on with Life  ;).  I like the pomp of Christian ceremony and think that religion can bind communities.  But it isn't for me, particularly when I over-hear those kinds of remarks!

Had he said anything to me, had I put anything in the donation bottle  ;) - I would have put my hand in and retrieved it!
