Fall
« on: August 28, 2013, 06:21:45 AM »

I had a fall about 6 weeks ago. I didnt break anything, but really hurt my arm and now having physio. Since this happened I have been feeling really down. Everything seems to ache and i am not sleeping well. I take HRT, Evoril conti, been on it for about a year, also use vagifem. I don't know if the way I feel is just my bodies reaction to the fall. Or if I need to re look at the HRT, before I started it I wasn't sleeping and had lots of aches and pains. A few months in I started to feel good, I was sleeping and most aches had gone...is it just easy to blame everything on meno and HRT?
Should I go to the GP and get a general check up? Any thoughts, anyone else had a fall that's affected them?

Would have expected the healing process to have been kicking in by now with regards to your arm, especially as you are getting physio on it. Was it x-rayed at the time?

Soft tissue damage takes longer than a fracture very often to heal.  What does the physio suggest regarding time scale?

I fell 2 weeks ago onto my right side, badly winding myself - couldn't talk for 20 mins..  The aches, pains and spasms continue so I am now taking Nurofen when necessary.  Which does help.

Be kind to yourself.  Shock and bruising can take time!

No X-ray, GP and physio say nothing broken, didnt give any indication of time scale. GP said it could take longer than a fracture.
Painkillers not helping. GP gave me Tramadol, which made me very sick. So, not taking any pain killers.
I just feel really rubbish!!!!

Maybe something less fierce than Tramadol is required.  Have you tried Nurofen or Paracetamol every 3 hours?  I can't remember which is the pain relief and which provides anti-spasm.

There are a lot of tendons which can be pulled in a fall.  These take a while to heal and the elastiscity is less as we age  ::).  Did the physio suggest exercises?

Yes, she has given me some exercise to do. My private health cover has agreed to 6 sessions, so I will make the most of it. Just surmised how bad it's made me feel! Never had a fall before!! Physio also done some ultra sound treatment.

I feel about 8 years ago, tripped over a hose and there was no 'give', straight onto my face.    :o  I was every colour under the sun in various shades for several weeks.  Let myself rest.  Watched R new chickens in their run.  Fortunately the weather was fine.

I went to the GP this morning.  He explained why I get burning in my thigh at night and suggested more gentle exercise.  I sneezed before I went and the muscle over the R pelvis area has nipped all day despite pain relief  :(

Since March I have had deep burning over the left thigh at night.  By day I forget about it.  We had done a lot of extra walking up and down gradients.

GP told me it is a nerve - which of course, has a very long name  ::) - I keep meaning to reach for the Dorling Kindersley medical book but by the time I am downstairs .............

I have this burning and numbness, burning and stinging in my upper outer left thigh (patch area not the whole upper thigh)  and came to the conclusion that it was Meralgia-paresthetica

I told the Consultant about it, probably why he said I might have a pinched nerve, its not there all the time but does come after I have been walking and standing around, it also comes after I have washed my hair, bending over the sink and then lifting my arms to dry hair, in fact washing my hair is a very tiring business now.

I see the Consultant on 6th of September for results of MRI and not before time as my lower left back pain has worsened over the time it has taken to get this far with the NHS, I saw my Doctor on Friday and she said I had to maintain pain control when I told her of my fears about ibuprofen ( the only thing that eases discomfort ) and the dose I took was very small, she also said that the reason I am fatigued even when I wake up is due to chronic lower back pain now and the stress I have been through with OH who by the way is thriving now and looks very well.

Just want to get back to my cheerful and optimistic self :(
