Badly need rain here now. Butts have not filled for some time.
Yesterday I pulled up a weed with full root & root hairs intact out of very dry soil.

Very dry in general though cooler mornings will begin dew fall ........ I've used the hose several times where necessary: mainly hydrangeas and astrantia: as well as the water in the 7 barrels plus a large tank which is kept half filled.

My rhododendron has had just 2 very tiny sad looking flowers on it this year. One of my hydrangeas hasn't flowered at all and my lovely purple lace-cap hydrangea has been badly scorched by wind.
On a better note, I have six spikes on my canna that are full to bursting with pinky red flowers.

R any of those in pots, in which case they need feeding: tomato or seaweed liquids are great, once a week.
Scorching has happened to several of my plants this year. It's been hot winds and although most of the garden is sheltered, the bilberry has suffered. Lots of watering required, either with the hose or from barrels of stored water. Hydrangeas require watering every day as do astrantia. At the roots! I put water around then wait until that has sunk in B4 repeating.
Even the forsythia is suffering.

Professional gardener in the family so I get good guidance on what and what not to do
Even their plants are suffering with the weather over the last couple of years.
Water barrels are empty and the birds are having to drink from the pond rather than the bird bath as it dries up too quickly.
Won't be long before we're complaining about the amount of rain we're getting though

I wish - but not next week
I put the hose round earlier onto the hydrangeas which are wilting badly. There will be more plants to rescue this evening - the country isn't short of water as we live on an Island.
I have drawn off water from the barrels into buckets/cans waiting for the next rain to arrive, can't bear to waste any.

out and about yesterday and saw so many trees looking like autumn leaves already on!! Think it was lack of water, trying to but out of my mind it was autumn early.
Just when I had displayed this idea I walked around a corner to see a Virgnia Creeper that was turning bright red on some leaves.
Weird times

Conker/chestnut trees have a virus or critter which causes leaf 'burn' from July onwards although the trees survive. Virginia creeper are fab 4 those who dare to grow them.
Trees shed leaves in dry conditions we saw a lot of small 1s on Wednesday. Where do they go in Winter

Some of the summer bedding plants are finishing too. They normally last until mid September

If we all planted drought lovers the odds are that it'll rain solid for 18 months
Chilli pepper plants are doing nicely. We've been picking a few tomatoes but we're having trouble telling when the black ones are ripe enough
Overloaded with Victoria plums right now.

Blight affects tomatoes and spuds here and it's cheap enough to buy them.
It seems 2 B a good year for plums/wasps, pears, apples ......... our Gogi berry however may not last in the fruit cage, it's grown huge and the berries have an acidic after taste. In a small garden, however pretty a plant might B, it's got to earn its space. This mayB given to a friend who has a new garden.
