Butternut squashes are forming and climbing the frame. Picking Patty Pan squashes now which haven't been so good at climbing but hey ho.
Have dug out most of new potatoes yum.
Parsnips doing well for some reason this year.  OH just chucked in two rows of old seed which all germinated.  Other years it has been a struggle to get them to grow.

That's great news.   DH grew parsnips well for several years, the last couple no germination at all!

We had 1 squash years ago that crept across the plot like a triffid  .  It put out 3 squash all edible 

What does a 'patty pan' squash look like?

Anyone find woodlice eat their produce  ?  Couple of years ago I grew peppers for the first time, good sized fruits but not a single one edible by the time they were ripe enough as woodlice (& sun blistering) got to them before we could.  They are also increasingly eating our strawberries & the other day I found they have hollowed out 2 courgettes - one yellow, one green  .  All our produce has to be grown outdoors as no room for a greenhouse btw.  Has only been a problem for past 2-3 years.  Anyone else finding the same & have you found a way around it?

Morning.  As well as ear -wigs!  There are more woodlice around in the last couple of years ........ I have no idea how to get rid of them!

Peat-free compost - does any1 find it worth buying  .  Having problems with pot plants that have been sold in the stuff as well as peat-free mulch which allows water to run straight through rather than holding it around the roots.

On 📺  Monty Don was preparing a mix with grit but didn't have hardly any grit in the bucket  . 

Any1 have large hawk moth caterpillars appearing into the open air?

Golden rod: I could smell honey in the ☀️ , located to the tall rods which are about 6ft tall and covered with tiny insects and various types of flies.

Sunflowers opening up their faces to their 🌞 .  Germinated from the bird feeders, they face the wrong way from the lounge though

I’m enjoying second flowering on both an evening primrose and a laverta that I cut the finished flowering heads off a few weeks ago.
Asters beginning to flower and outdoor tomatoes ripening in this September sun.

The evening primrose here grow from 2ft-10ft tall.  Watching the yellow petals unfurling in the dusk is quite eerie 

I was watching a programme last night, a section was devoted to asters.  They never took off in our heavy clay.

Pity as they give some colour in the late summer /autumn.
One of my grans was a keen gardener the other not so much so but she grew tall Michaelmas Daisies (asters) in a back garden border looked over by a window.
In the front garden small border under a wall by the gate she used to put the plastic flowers out that came with packets of Omo washing powder. 😆

Been to a garden centre this afternoon.  Plants still in the car boot due to heavy rain

Pops of colour around the patio where I stood plants in pots.  Can't remember the names but they look like a form of daisy in bright yellow, deep mauve and a stunning red 

Bilberry plants and the spindle trees are lovely too.
