Maybe the Estring is what all these women who used to take 25mg and are now taking 10mg should look into trying, if the 10 doesn't give enough relief.  It really is no bother as you don't have to remember anything except to change it every 3 months.  You can't feel it inside after about 1 day. It takes a little maneuvering to get in and out though. It may be less expensive also, than a double dose of 10 vagifem.

If I can get my irritation to go away, I might ask my doc to consider letting me try it again.  I didn't think it lasted 90 days for me, but I've read on other forums that some docs will give RX to change sooner than 90 days.  It has been awhile since I tried it.  It was the first thing I tried  and I was much worse then.... but the presence of the ring may have made things worse on already inflamed tissue. I'm due to see the doc in March and will discuss this then. I think you mentioned this to me before regarding the ingredient sensitivity (i.e. fillers) and you said that it didn't have any besides the drug itself. The estrogen creams I tried both have alcohol and preservatives in them.

Gosh, I hope they don't decrease the dose....

Thanks,

Andius

The other thing about the ring which has interested me is that I am finding things very up and down with a twice-weekly dose -- pain and soreness improve (often two days after using the vagifem) but then get worse again. It's probably a combination of not enough hormone and it running out of steam. Stability would be lovely!

I tried the the estring, and initially it seemed great. I was quite surprised by its size and the robust quality of it. a much bigger thing than I thought it would be, and it felt uncomfortable to start with, I felt like I had to sit down gently. but eventually got used to it, had a really nice couple of months where I though yeah I have cracked it, then had very bad lower stomach pain, and went back to the vagifem..   but I thought I was the only one who couldn settle, but its nice to hear that others, get the unsettled burning. After my last episode of lower stomach pain, which was the worst I have ever felt, I wondered if it was withdrawl from vagifem ,  I had gone cold turkey for a fortnight lol. the doc now tells me to take it every day for three months..  before I went back onto vagifem the doc gave me a couple of days of gynest cream, now either I have changed or this cream has, years ago I remember using it and it was a really fluid cream, and came back down as soon as you moved. this gynest cream I recently used was more like a paste, and there was no sign of it coming down, and it seemed more soothing than the vagifem. as its  a cream. but then all of a sudden a burning started, so I went back to vagifem, every day for three months the doc directions. In between my suffering, I was given but never tried a aesthetic cream for up there, now has anyone ever used that. I didn't I thought no I cant take messing around just back onto the vagifem for me.

Had the estring since just before Christmas and it's definitely better than anything else I've tried. Don't notice it's there at all. Things have settled much better and though I do get the odd bad day, am now experimenting with a little exterior smear of Ovestin a couple of times a week just to reach the exterior bits/urethral opening. I don't know why more people don't give it a go.

Hi I had a total hysterectomy six weeks ago, I had not been through the menopause previous to that.

I have been reading about vaginal dryness on here and was wondering once you have had the menopause is this condition permanent or can the symptons stop.  I know they go away temporarily with treatment but over time can the condition rectify itself. :)

Hi happydays - sadly the condition wont rectify itself which is a shame. The dryness is due to lack of oestrogen which, of course, the body doesn't start producing again in high enough amounts to counteract the dryness. The curious thing is that not all women suffer from it so you may not develop it yourself.

Hi Ladies,  My first post.  Been reading this since Nov 2012 when I received my first Vagifem 10.  Started this dreadful condition about May 2012.  Like most of you, wondered what on earth was wrong with me.  A couple of UTIs, about 5 months of 2ing and frowing to GP, proddings and pokings, finally saw a gynae and got Vagifem 10.  She was very nice. However, said "some ladies like to use this 3 months on, 3 months off"  You have to be joking! 3 MONTHS OFF!
Took about 6 weeks to work, then wonderful.  Absolutely normal.  Couldn't believe my luck. Had a blip end of Jan 2013.  Got nervous about visit to GP at end of lst 3 months.  Nerves definitely play a big part.  Was worried GP wouldn't continue to prescribe.  He wanted me to take a break to see what would happen but gave me some more to use when I needed.  Quite reasonable,  I thought.  I lasted 3 weeks.  Lovely all last year, except for a slight blip end of August, again before visit to GP.  Then about 4 weeks ago it started to fail.  I thought it was because I was anxous, again.  Going to a 25 anniversary party.  I'm a miserable old bag, parties aren't my thing.  It was my dead cousin's daughter whom I haven't seen for a long time, and I also worried about what to buy.  Thought the blip would ease off after the party, but not so.  Saw GP to see if I could do restart.  He's really quite nice, and said ok.  I mentioned some ladies in Aus are still having the Vaginfem 25 and he said he could still prescribe it, but it wasn't licenced, whatever that means.   Last night of every day yesterday.  Things have improved, but still not perfect like before.  Very nervous about missing it tonight.  Think I might need the 25 now, although maybe it would be better to use 5x 10 a week for more even dose if GP will allow.
My question:  are any ladies here in UK using the 25 and how many tabs a week.
I'm not happy about using this at all, didn't use the pill or HRT, but needs must.
I was so pleased to come accross this fab site with all you lovely ladies.  Like most of you, no-one would wish this on anyone, but its so good to find that others are having the same thoughts and feelings, and you're not a complete wimp or going nuts.  I have particularly enjoyed posts by Taz and SusieQ.  You made me laugh, which is always good.

Hi

 :welcomemm:

I don't really suffer from this but I wanted to say welcome and suggest you introduce yourself in the new members section. Your post which others will want to answer may get lost in this one.

Hi HoneyB,  Thanks.  I can't see how to get to the new members bit.  Not very good at negotiating sites.

If you click on the forum box left of screen that will take you to a page that shows all the different categories of topics. If you scroll down the page you will see a section called new members. At the top of that section there will be a box that says....start new topic. Click on that and off you go.

Hope that helps if not ask again. You will soon be zooming around.

Hi. nervousnel, not sure I can give you any words of comfort. but I recently had a up and downer with the vagifem. things didn't settle, but was told by the doc, I should use the 10 every day for three months. I haven't, as it seemed to settle quite quickly. but yet again after a settled period. things are not happy again. round in circles I go lol.  xx

Hi Hellen,  Thanks for your message. Its good to know that some have had bad blips and then ok again for a while.  There's hope yet.    I didn't use one last night, used replens this morning.  Thinking about trying 5 a week as thats equal to 2 x 25.  Although aware of myself most of today, its not been too bad.  I was a lot worse whilst waiting for proper diagnosis.  I've got about 20 tabs left, so if I keep on with 5 a week that'll last about 4 weeks.  I've not had the bad bladder sensations since before vagifem, and keep worrying that will come back. Drinking ocean spray classic cranberry juice to try and ward that off. Looking at labels that seems to be the one with the most actual cranberry in.  I order my repeat prescriptions on line so hoping the GP won't want to see me to query my usage.  When I asked if I could to the reload again I also asked if I could use it when I wanted so hope it will be ok with him.  However, as with most others I'm sure, I only want to use the minimum required for comfort.
Bought another pair of tracky bottoms today.  I hate the look of them but they're so comfortable - loose and soft.  Thats all I care about at the moment.
