if hyud been put on Vagifem 1 year or so ago and for at least the prev 10 before that 25mx2x7
Then they changed it to 10m x2x7 over half the dose weekly for many its not worked
they say it was reduced because of medical reasons sorry i dont buy that
if it is then vagifem had better wait for millions of women world wide to sue them if they get ill
naaa it was money the new pk of 175m less dose costs virtually the same price!!!!!
we are cash cows baby boomers post war and up to mid 1960s millions of us they are makng????
in ozz we are strll getting 25m i suppose they are dumping stock here i have 7 pkts in stock
many ladies are taking 3/4 a week thats still less than the 2x25=50 a week
a few seem ok on 2x10 but most of them seem to be on hrt as well not all but most im not!

Hi, thank you for your reply I was a bit concerned I should be dropping it to three times a week, but its not the best, I would be much happier on every other day, but don't want to be doing the wrong thing .

Hi
I have suffered with recurrent cystitis and vaginal atrophy since going through the menopause and although vagifem helps a lot, I don't find the 10mg is as effective. My GP prescribed Epaderm OINTMENT (not the cream) as well as the vagifem and I slap that on my bits most days. I also use it to wash with in the shower as most other gels & soaps make my symptoms worse. Combined with the vagifem I find It keeps everything more comfortable. Not sure if anyone else has noticed a deterioration in their eyesight as well but since taking evening primrose oil on a daily basis I have definitely noticed an improvement in my ability to read things without my specs

hi everyone
I have been on vagifem for almost 2 years and though most of the time I am fine - symptoms seem to be increasing and when they do the pain is worse.  My husband cant 'perform' so we make do but I am struggling to even manage this and it is now affecting my marriage.  Am sick of going to my Gp with allsorts and admit to being a hypochondriac!  We are supposed to be going away next weekend but don't know if I will be able to 'shop' without pains in the nether regions and also terrible lower abdomen pain.  Does this pain ever stop?  It is really starting to get me down and making my mind wander :'( to all sorts of terrible conclusions which - along with night sweats is affecting my sleep - getting by on 4 to 5 hors a night then wide awake only to feel tired at 6 am when I have to get ready to got to work.  Totally fed up :'( :'( of feeling  uncomfortable and tired out

Hi saladgirl - so sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time at the moment. As we go further into meno it is usual to need more oestrogen as our own levels fall. Are you on the new low dose of Vagifem?

I wondered if you have had the stomach pain checked out. VA does not usually give lower abdominal pain so it does need to be investigated.

I'm not sure how old you are or how far into meno but I needed vagifem plus full HRT to help with the VA. I started off with just vagifem and then as meno symptoms increased began full HRT and stopped the vagifem and then, after a couple of years, needed to restart the vagifem as well as HRT to achieve the same results. I am now off HRT but using vagifem although the dosage is not high enough really.

Taz, are you now on the 2x10 dose of vagifem, and that's what isn't high enough? Am struggling with this myself and girding myself to go and see GP next week. I am fine during a period or if I have any bleeding in between (seem to have lots of mini periods with an hour or so's cramping and then spotting). No other symptoms so don't think full HRT an option just now. Hoping, I think, to get permission to use extra vagifem at bad times or maybe try the ring which is a higher dose.

Yes I am on the 2x10 dosage now but even the higher dose wasn't enough on it's own as I went further into meno. I am going to talk to my doc about upping my dose - although I would prefer to re-start HRT sometime soon!!

Is the estring ring really a higher dose than vagifem 10mg?

This gives info re strength etc. http://www.medicines.org.uk/EMC/medicine/1512/SPC/Estring/  you need to scroll down to Pharmacodynamic Properties.

Thanks, TAZ! ;)

I have tried to use it in the past and I thought the dose was probably equivalent to Vagifem although could never see it printed anywhere, just the the effects were the same.  This doesn't really compare them, although I guess I could look up the pharmacodynamics for Vagifem and compare myself.

10pg/ml in bloodstream continuously for 90 days does seem like it would probably be more than Vagifem. When I have used estring in the past, I still had burning after a couple of weeks.  I also took the ring out for "various activities" as it was bothersome at times.  It was always covered with a thick white substance like jelly.  I asked pharmacist and they said it was probably the drug that comes out of the ring as it has barium in it which is white.  I didn't think they lasted 90 days for me.  I did like that it didn't have to "dissolve" to be effective like the vagifem has to do. If you are really dry, I found the dissolving aspect was an issue for me.

Hi andius

The Estring delivers approx the same dose of Estradiol as 25mcg dose of Vagifem.

If you look at the figures - the Estring delivers 7.5 mcg per 24 hours = 52.5 mcg per week. The twice weekly dose of Vagifem 25 would deliver 50 mcg per week. Vagifem 10 mcg delivers 20 mcg per week max, when used twice a week.

Those figures are assuming that the amount of estradiol in the vagifem and released into the vagina and the amount similarly released from the Estring, are comparable ie they both do what they are designed to do. There will be differences between women and probably also in the way that each product works in each woman.

Nevertheless - if you want more estradiol in your vag area - then the Estring will give it to you, unless you at least double up on the Vagifem.

I wonder how long it will be before they reduce the dosage in this product (sorry if that makes me sound cynical!)??
