Thanks for that Susan. All I wanted to do was swap to another vaginal medication. So am hoping that my usual GP will have something different to say on the subject

Having posted how well vagifem and ovestin have worked, I'm wondering if its the experience of others for the benefits to wear off between the twice weekly doses?

I am having real problems at the moment with itching and soreness, its getting me down. I havent got much of a control & are using a variety of stuff desparately trying to help this.  My gp recommended I started on  low  dose hrt which I have been taking for around a month. I use gynest cream couple times a week and have started to use replens couple times a week.

I found after a week off work it abated a bit & seemed in control but then once I had sex it flares up again.  It gets really sore & itchy.  I need to go back to GP for advise managing this but just thought would share my experiences as I have read here a lot of you suffer too.

I dont like the HRT because its made me depressed!, so thats making it harder to handle, think I will have to come off that.  Makes my boobs sore too!, so I do tend to think whats the point!

OK go back if you dont, like HRT pills patches what ever diont take them
You need for the fanny to be on either 14days of Vagifem and then 2 times a week
Or someother HRT cream or pressaries
Replens and all those others dont get rid of the problem of burning pain sandpaper
You need hortmoes direct to the Vagina and the walls
See the GP OK xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I never took HRT either but its not for everyone to take it or not take it you like everyone else have to decide xxx

Hi Sheila - it takes at least three months before the symptoms such as sore boobs subside so after a month you really haven't got a good idea of whether it will work eventually for you.  If your dryness is quite advanced then you may find that vagifem alone will not be enough oestrogen to help. Why not give the HRt a bit longer. Which type are you using. Some of them have the progesterone Norethisterone in which can lead to depressed mood or pmt symptoms. These can sometimes even out though after the first few months.

Hello, I'm new and have been following this topic for a few months now and finally plucked up the courage to join.  Ladies, your advice has helped me greatly, I'd never heard of Vagifem before.
I've been sufferring from VA since September as you know, it's so sore, painful and itchy, it really gets you down  :'(  I had a hysterectomy in November due to fibroids and was given Progynova 2mg for the VA by my Consultant.  Didn't help so after reading on here about Vagifem I asked my GP for it who was happy to prescribe it but didn't know enough about it, she reduced my Progynova to 1mg.  It hasn't really helped.  Tried every cream and Replens etc, went back my GP (different lady who was horrible and I was in tears, her quote to me was 'Ive seen worse')  I was mortified!
Anyway, she referred me back to my Consultant who performed my operation (whom I saw yesterday)who confirmed that because I don't have a womb, I'm low risk and I can take Vagifem everyday and has increased my Progynova back up to 2mg also, vagasil and sudocream were also recommended.  I now feel like a weight has been lifted and there is a light at the end of the 'sandpaper' tunnell!!!!  ;D
Thank you for all your advice.  It's a comfort to know that I'm not the only one sufferring this horrible thing, I just wish that none of us were :(

I am about three months in using 10 mcg twice a week, but don't feel I am getting any real benefit from it and still have a lot of dryness.  Also noticing I have had quite a few headaches since I've been on it, and wonder if anyone else has noticed this.

You probably need 25mg sweetie every day for 2 weeks
Then twice a week
10mgs may not be enough to work for you 10mgs are fairly new
I started 2 years ago and 10mg didnt exist then good luck xxx

Went back to gp and reported overall success of vagifem and he has prescribed vagifem again. Says I can tailor it to whatever doses suit me. So pleased with the results after a month - its helped with water works too. No bladder urgency since I started treatments. Once again I have to let everyone know that it was this forum that led me to this solution. Don't know how long I will feel this way but I'm going to enjoy it whilst it lasts! :D
