Menopause news

Twins more likely to have premature menopause.

27 November 2006

Research published in Human Reproduction has shown that twins are more likely to experience a premature menopause than other women. A study of more than 800 Australian and British twin pairs demonstrated that premature ovarian failure was between 3 and 5 times more likely in twins than in the general population. Whether the twins were identical or not did not affect the findings. It is uncertain why this is the case but it may lead to more research, which may improve the knowledge about causes of premature menopause.
